Not to mention there was literally several different shades of red in the stands. My family had Cyclone shirts that were all different shades of red. Like the school couldn't decide what color of red to be. It looked ridiculous. It seems like they have addressed that problem now.

That problem was a Nike problem for the longest time (3-4 years). When ISU made the change away from "red" to "cardinal" only football and the track programs were designated Nike "elite" programs and got the custom made "cardinal" colors. Everything else was basically maroon gear sent to ISU.

Same thing happened with clothing sold to the general public.

I could get on board with this for a one or two game appearance:

I'm still on board with twitter @CycloneUniforms' concept from April. Its a subtle enough change to make things look new and improved. Add in a couple alternate colors and then you have 64 different kick*** combination possibilities.

I recall seeing that set a while back, probably in another CF uniform thread (or maybe at Twitter uni) ...

That "I"-shaped striping on the shoulders is clever (lost completely on the cardinal jersey, though) --

I could dig that basic set, even without the permutations, with exceptions — I don't want all-cardinal -- stick with gold pants. I don't want gray. Yeah, it can work with just about any color scheme, but it does nothing for me.

I agree that dark grey could be a good look. I hope everyone realizes I'm simply talking about an alternate uniform combination. I'm not talking about a permanent switch for a home or away jersey. Plenty of teams utilize all black or all grey combos for one or two games of the season. I'm willing to bet if ISU did it then a ton of fans would think they are bad *****. I'm sure players would as well. They get excited about wearing unique jerseys. It's the way it is.

I feel the same way about Iowa. I love the traditional Iowa uniforms, and I don't want them to go anywhere. However, I don't see why Kirk can't bend a little bit and allow a unique uniform for a couple games of the season. On Black Out games let them wear an all black combination. All that would require is some black pants and maybe a new helmet concept. If it's something the players enjoy, and you can sell it to recruits then I don't get why you wouldn't consider it.

I think that ISU should steer clear of a black alternate and Iowa should stay away from a red alternate. The other team in the state in each case has dibs on that color in my opinion. As far as an all black alternate for Iowa? I'm no fan of Iowa but I think it would be cool for their fans especially as you said for a black out game.

On the cardinal jersey it should be reversed to gold-cardinal-gold and possibly even use the cardinal shadow color so that it stands out. Note that the gold of the gold jersey and the gold stripe don't appear to be the same color either.

These are freaking awesome. Not that I follow a lot of college football teams, but I don't know if I recall ever seeing shoulder stripes like that before.

Can I just ask what the obsession with white helmets around here is all about?

I'm not obsessed and have never commented on the white helmets but I will say this, it's aesthetically pleasing and really makes the I-State logo pop...I like the look much better than the I-State logo on the cardinal helmet.

To me, it's about making the logo stand out and be noticeable.

I'm pretty sure the poster who mentioned Iowa wearing red uniforms was just being a smart ***** because I said I think ISU's colors would compliment a black uniform well. Iowa would look ridiculous if they actually tried to use red. On the other hand, many teams wear black uniforms even if it's not part of their traditional school colors.

I understand that, but you're putting a major color that isn't in the teams color scheme in the design. Would you put black on the helmet instead of white? It would also make the logo stand out, but it doesn't mean it should be done.

Just the take of an old 31 year old man that lived through the blue in helmet scheme, I suppose.
