He is a defensive mind just like Chizzle was. His O-cordinator however seems to be the offensive guy..he was at Texas Tech in 05-06 when Tech started to use the spread offensive a lot more than anyone else.

I dont know, while I think Stoops has the right character and attitude..I just wonder why they havent improved. Dont get me wrong they are going to a bowl game. But I have been to the U of Arizona campus, and if you cant consitantly pull in 4-5 star recruits..you are doing something wrong.

You have to remember that he is trying to recuit to a school that is dominated by basketball. I don't care where you coach, when the sport you coach is second tier to another, you will have your difficulties.

If Mike Stoops is who we hire, then I trust that Mike Stoops was the best coach we could get. Regardless of who we hire, we need to support him or this ship will never be turned around.

I'm going to reserve judgment until we hire whoever and then we get from Pollard why he was his guy.

Do I think there are better, more proven prospects than Stoops? Yes. (See Gary Patterson)

While Stoops was under some fire this year, he does have some nice wins against some pretty good teams in past years in that conference. Remember, Mangino and Pinkel were all on rather warms seats until they started winning...
The seat under Mangino is always warm regardless.

I don't know if I would categorize them as being in negotiations yet, but I do know that he is very high on the list of those being rumored.

Based on what MT has told me, I think things are getting more than just 'on the surface'.

honestly, this is what it comes down to is a match between 2 radio guys. Marty says Stoops now b/c Cotler says Fulmer this morning. Jesus.

Cotlar just said Fulmer was interested in us. JP may not be interested in him. However, I don't know why -- the guy is a proven winner. I sure as heck hope Fulmer is at least interviewed!

I'm still on the Patterson train as well. This is proving to be like the search for Chiz.

Remember how Chiz's name was brought up right away and then faded away? Then there was Norvell, Kelly, etc. We all forgot about Chiz and then JP pull him out of his hat.

This is much the same. I think we end up with a Patterson, Peterson, or Holtz

Fulmer, Hill, and Stoops are the smokescreens.

No doubt in my mind.

I know I am in the minority, but I would like the hire.

I do think he is a good coach. Oklahoma didn't look the same after he left and still hasn't won a big game since he left.

Arizona had zero talent when he got there. They were beyond bad. He know has some talent and they are competing in the PAC 10.

His name would be a name a lot of recruits would like

The fact that Jon was conferring with Marty about this should explain the credibility of the rumor. Not exactly a braintrust with those two.

Another thing to remember - it's likely NOT Stoops - here is why...

In both coaching searches, it was believed by many (and actually reported by some) that we'd have a different MBB and FB coach than we ended up with.

Almost a guarantee that the first guy announced/rumored to be hired is NOT going to be it. ;)

Please tell me what difference does it make if the guy used to be a Hawkeye. I would honestly like to know.

because I, and many other ISU fans, hate Iowa. It wouldn't affect his coaching ability at all. I hope you didn't think I thought that for a second.

If he impressed at Arizona then I might be more on board. If we're going to make a mediocre hire I'd just prefer he not be a Hawk.

I would be interested in knowing if Stoops reached out to us, like Fulmer apparently has. If so...our football program might not be as crappy as people think. The challenge of coming into the Big 12, especially in the North is sounding more attractive every day to some coaches.

It is interesting to think about the possibility of him being here..I am not saying that Bobby would pass along some recruits that they can't "find a fit for"..but seriously, they are brothers. And it looks like Mike and Bobs other brother is on the Arizona staff. Would probably come with Mike.

I just think this is smoke...he has a bowl game to compete for, he doesnt have time to make a phone call saying he is interested in leaving IMO.

Unfortunately, my article last night about ISU needing a coach and not a name was a direct reference to Stoops and the numerous rumors that he is at the top of the list for JP. I don't know if I would categorize them as being in negotiations yet, but I do know that he is very high on the list of those being rumored.
Totally agree with that. I think Mike Stoops is a huge mistake, seems to be a good recruiter but not a very good coach.
