Most ranking systems still love USC, hell they're 7th in the Sagarin rankings even with three losses.
Hawkeyes play 4 teams with losing records. Their SOS is going to drop like a rock.
Wouldn't offensive and defensive balance involve scoring a lot while holding your opponent to little. Maybe like TCU beating WVU 40-10 or Baylor beating Kansas 66-7?That is stupid and introduces bias. Why and exactly how are they "measuring" this?
I agree. Who says that you define how good a football team is by their offensive and defensive balance?
Why is winning a game by the score of 60-53 any worse than winning one by the score of 24-17, or 3-0 for that matter?
Not sure if this was already referenced.

Sounds like they are already setting the stage for how even if Iowa goes undefeated, they could potentially still get left out of the playoff. Their "eye test", will keep Iowa out of it. Especially since now it sounds like they set the standard for how they will judge things for the next rankings.
Answer: eye test.
"Their offense is something we look at closely," Long said of the Hawkeyes. "I think there's a question in the room of how strong their offense is. I think their defense has been consistent, but it's difficult to judge based on the quality of teams they've played at this point in some respects."
"A team's record speaks volumes, but it doesn't tell us everything about that team's résumé," Long said. "Our committee's charge is to go deeper. We always look at strength of schedule, and this was discussed in great depth over the last two days. Losses against a quality opponent were also taken into account. We discussed whether any one-loss teams should be ranked higher than undefeated teams because of the strength of their schedule or the circumstances around their loss."
"What can't change is the committee's philosophy.
It has to continue to apply the same standards through the next five rankings. It was just difficult to tell from the first ranking which standards carried the most weight."
The "if Iowa goes 13-0 they are automatically in" talk is hilarious. Do they think the committee is changing any time soon? Is ESPN no longer broadcasting the playoff?
I heard Trent Condon on the radio yesterday saying that Iowa is a National Brand and they got higher ratings in some random game than some other random games 5 years ago so that means "Even non-Iowa fans are interested in the hoks". Laffy.

Insert Hawkeye butthurt here.
Which ever team emerges from this schedule (I'm guessing TCU) should be the top ranked team of the four teams in the playoff.Yes. This backloaded B12 schedule is going to hurt the conference more than help. OU, OSU, Baylor, TCU are going to kill each other.

Best hope is for TCU to win out. I can see that happening. I just do not see the love for Notre Dame.

They have one of the stronger SOS in the top ten and lost a close game in a hurricane to the one seed.
They are getting the most venom from my Pantherhawk neighbor though, who came over to scream at me when I was going out to walk the dog. Lots of slurs thrown in about Condi Rice as well.

Again, according to Sagarin... SOS rankings for the Top 10 in the committee...
Clemson (28)
LSU (37)
Ohio State (68)
Alabama (9)
Notre Dame (16)
Baylor (104)
Michigan State (59)
TCU (53)
Iowa (47)
Florida (15)
Baylor's is a joke so far, sue, but Ohio State is next to last on that list.
ND probably misses out in that scenario. Unfortunately for them, USC, GTech and Texas's fall has hurt them.
If they win out, their best win would be @Stanford which Iowa could match with the Big 10 title game.
What are ND's 2nd and 3rd best wins? Temple and a multiple loss USC team?
