Well it is meteorological summer which is based on monthly average temps that make June, July and August the hottest months on average and not based on an astronomical phase that has no impact on actual weather.

Corn sweat comes earlier as "knee high by the 4th of July" becomes "knee high by the 4th of June". This will be the new normal.

Well, that was a "fun" drive from N Ankeny to WDM. Rolled the pants up and wore the sports slides (not dress code approved) into work to keep my shoes dry. Had a river running through the parking lot.

I'm really just bummed that my rain barrel I ordered didn't get here sooner so I could have caught some of this rain to water my garden this weekend. Of course it's out for delivery today so missed it by like 8 hours.
If you've ever thought about a rain barrel - check with your cities Storm Water department, from what I've seen most offer rebates for them. Waukee and West Des Moines also offer assistance if you want to do Soil Quality Restoration (spreading compost/dirt on your lawn), which I'm going to do next spring in a hope to not only help the lawn, but level it out a bit.
