Honeymoon Spots in the U.S.

My wife and I went to Key West for our honeymoon, and really had a good time. Spent maybe $4000 between hotel, air and random stuff there. Weather was beautiful (especially for February), and the mood is really laid back. And yeah, you can pretty much walk the entire island.

If you are willing to expand out of the US, some of the Caribbean islands can be inexpensive and easy to travel to. We honeymooned in Montego Bay, Jamaica and the full week's trip including airfare and all inclusive accommodations was $2400 for both of us. Easy access on a 3 hour flight from Atlanta, so only about 5 hours of flight time from DSM. Doing it again, I wouldn't stay for a full week, but 4-5 days would be perfect.

Can't remember the name, but it was right on the west point where the cruise ships come in. Ocean/gulf view room. It was pretty pricey. The meals seemed to add up to a hundred bucks a pop, even if it was breakfast.

Well, I've never been married, but check out the Big Sur area in California. I guess I don't know what you guys like, but it's the large area basically the north edge is Pebble Beach/Monterrey and the south edge is the Hearst Castle in San Simeon.

It's like 40 miles of wilderness basically...a bunch of hotels/lodges out there. It's just beautiful though IMO. It's where most car commercials are filmed in the US too.


I guess if you love hiking and all that ****, this is a great place. It's an amazing place though period

If you want to save money, the Brass Lantern in Greenfield, IA is very nice.

Charleston/Hilton Head/Savannah (SC & GA) area is pretty kick *** in the summer, not over packed plenty to see, especially if you like to golf or just like the beach. Not to mention it's actually pretty romantic. No joke.

I prefer US because we plan to leave on a Monday and have to be back by Saturday. Just don't have a ton of time.

I dont know how anyone could have a bad time in Playa del Carmen, or anywhere on the riviera maya. Whats two more hours on your flight?

Charleston is very, very cool. We went in July though, and holy crap. 98 degrees with 99% humidity. Felt like I needed a shower within 5 minutes of being outside.

I'd recommend Maui and 1 night in Honolulu before you go home. Maui is WAY more relaxing, more cultural, and less of a tourist trap than Honolulu. We took our honeymoon and did this and agreed 1 night in Honolulu was more than enough to see everything you probably would want to see there.

We went to Maui and Kauai for about 10 days, highly recommend. Since then, we have been back to Kauai, and to Kona/Big Island....

For your planned duration, choose 1 island, since there is so much to do on each.

We went to Destin, Florida. GREAT place to honeymoon..great beaches, good nightlife and a very southern down-home style about the town. Not so ******-baggy like south beach or clearwater. Also, I believe it was a lot cheaper than other beach towns.

We went to the Dominican Republic and it was amazing. Stayed at Excellence at Punta Cana on an all-inclusive deal. We absolutely loved it, and it was only like a 1.5 hour flight from Miami. I'm guessing it'd be quicker to get down there than it would be to Hawaii from Iowa.

Hard to beat Cancun and your $$$s will go a lot farther. Hawaii's nice but expensive when you get there.

I agree with this. And if you go, make sure you rent a condo rather than stay at a hotel. When you're in a condo there for a week, it makes you feel like you're actually living there, and it is very relaxing. There is so much to do there and all of the big city nonsense is over in Honolulu.

Just booked 4 nights in cancun for about $1300 for 2 people, all inclusive. Never been there, nor have I done all inclusive before, but it seems to be a good deal.
