Thee is no reason to think JP hasn't been in contact with Hornaceks people.

There is much more smoke out there suggesting Hornacek hasn't been contacted. I haven't seen anything to suggest he has...not that that means much. But it's worth at least bringing up the question.

I thought Hornacek himself has said he hasn't had any contact yet from ISU?

Not that you can believe what he says probably, but I did think I remember him saying that.

Here's the one shred of hope I'm hanging on to...

June 11, 2010 -- Everyone's ready to bet their mortgage that Izzo leaves MSU for the Cavaliers
June 16, 2010 -- Izzo spurns Cleveland to stay with the Spartans

We're not Michigan State, and the post-LBJ Cavs are not the 2015/6 Bulls, and I don't know if Izzo had some "lifelong dream" to be an NBA coach...but there's at least some precedent for Fred staying.

He's not staying and at this point do we really even want him to? He would not be able to recruit without a 4-5 year commitment which he would not give.

I'm at the point I would prefer that he leaves. I'll probably get hammered for it, but if he is constantly looking into the NBA for a job he is doing nothing but hurting us. He may be a good X and Os coach but you have to be able to recruit and this is killing it.

This thinking will make you sick. Let this notion go for your own health. Start the first Stage of the 5 Stages of grief, you will get to Acceptance quicker and then life is great. Or just go home and hug your children and realize all this stuff is not that important.

Only way he can stay is if he agrees to a large NBA buyout $4m minimum and a very firm public statement.

I don't think he's willing to do that so unfortunately it's best if he goes.

I would bet Fred ultimately turned the Magic job down or at least excused himself from consideration after talks, but did want to explore it as the Bulls scenario dragged on...
So while Fred is leading ISU on, he had Magic job ready which he turned down as soon as the Bulls offer came open while TWolves were working him. Wait till he takes the Bulls job and he is locked down by the billionaire owner at a whim.

Fred stopped being our coach months ago. The man isn't quite as dreamy anymore...more slimy.
He may be more about money than winning at this point if he doubles his salary. And people refuse to believe this? Sorry, people.

The list is starting to get pretty long for the people we can't believe. And I don't include Romar in that list. Sad.

Funny how quick I've gone from thinking his NBA interest was such a great thing for us to the exact opposite now.

At least there is Randy Pete to laugh at. He actually answered a question in his column from Pandy about getting Steve Alford to coach as if it was serious. He also can't confirm anything about Hornacek because Jeff won't answer his texts. Apparently the head writer for ISU sports in the Rag tries to contact an ISU legend NBA coach through text.

If JP fails to do any sort of search so he can hire his buddy Otz, that is absolutely terrible. Hornacek would obviously at least pick up the phone (based on some of his comments this week). Perhaps Hornacek is just jockeying for an extension, but failing to talk to him is absolutely terrible. I guess it shouldn't be a surprise though, JP hired McDermott and picked Chizik over Jim Harbaugh (Jim Harbaugh freaking wanted to coach here!).

Surprised about how many people are wanting Otz as their #1 choice. If we hire Otz, I will fall in line, but damn..... Don't you guys realize how big of a gamble this is? We're giving someone that may or may not have been hired by a low major school the head coaching job at a P5 school that is a top 10 team in the country. That is insanity. If Pollard makes the wrong decision everything that ISU has gained the last 5 year as far as being nationally relevant gets flushed down the toilet.

Coaching firm has been hired. Hornacek's agent has likely been contacted. Hornacek maintains ambiguous position. He is under contract to the Suns for next year at $2 million per year. A good year and he gets a lot of money. Hornacek seems to be an NBA guy. All of the posturing could be about getting a better deal from the Suns.

Chizik was the sexy hire, if you go back to that time. It was considered a coup.
