If we haven't or don't even CONTACT Jeff Hornacek, I would be ****** at Pollard for this "search". His last couple have locked onto one guy and he hasn't been open to others. It worked for Fred. But can he catch lightning in a bottle twice?
Man, the meltdown around here is going to be EPIC.
Some of you are ridiculous. Fred is doing what he thinks is best for him and his family. He doesnt care what a bunch of random, anonymous posters/fans think. We have known since the beginning that Fred wanted to coach in the NBA. Everyone here would do the same thing if they were in his position. Has Fred and ISU handled this perfectly? No, but with the Bulls situation and Fred's surgery, they handled it the best they could.
Instead of acting like immature little children, how about we all be grateful for what Fred did here and wish him the best.

I'm in the delusional stage, and it is fantastic. It's like a choose your own adventure book .
I can fully understand not liking the ripple the TJ hire will make compared to the huge splash that Hornacek would make. However I don't get the hatred and/or disgust that some have for Tj especially for leaving iowa state for 2 years. He did what any business professional would do and he tried to advance his career and knowledge of what he does. He left so that he could add another influence to HIS coaching style so that when the time was right he was ready to be a HC. This was very much like what Hoiberg did by surrounding himself with former head coaches when he got here. As an assistant leaving was the only way to immerse himself in these other philosophies of not only Romar but his entire staff. Hopefully these additional experiences have given TJ the perspective and confidence to fully implement HIS game plan and style with the upmost confidence wether that be here or somewhere else. TJ is a very smart guy who knows what his shortcomings are and has worked hard to shore up those deficiencies. I believe if he is the one to lead us that he has seen what it takes for a coach to succeed especially when it comes to playing styles and the good and bad styles of managing players . I could very much see TJ adding a former HC to the staff in similar fashion as Hoiberg as well as retaining Mann and surrounding himself with two other recruiters who would recruiting territory specific hires similar to what TJ and Mann bring with Wisconsin an Michigan. He has also now seen three very different styles of player management off the court and the pros and cons of each with two resulting in transfers leaving and obviously Hoibergs style. Just my take but I would not be the least bit disappointed in the hire and the direction we would be headed.
Thee is no reason to think JP hasn't been in contact with Hornaceks people.

I think it's interesting that CW takes a beating for reporting what he can, when we would crush him for failing to report what he could on the biggest Cyclone story in many a year.
Frustration. Shoot the messenger. Don't envy his job right now. Just tired of Randy Pete just blabbering his thoughts without doing any actually reporting.

Friday was a pretty quiet day when it comes to Hoiberg Watch, 2015. NOT.
For real though, I didn't learn much when it comes to behind the scenes stuff - only that a deal between Hoiberg and the Bulls is not currently in place. However, I do expect that to occur early next week.
NOTE to the "why publish that article" crowd: Because if a deal really was in place for months like some had indicated, that's a bad look for Iowa State's head coach. I had to know if that was true. If a coach knows he is on his way out, is he really recruiting the same way as a guy trying to build for the future? That type of stuff. I wanted to dig into it.
Hoiberg's reputation should mean something here. I was not surprised to learn that the whole "gentlemen's agreement" thing was false.
The daily dirt
--- In my opinion, the biggest news from Friday is that according to the Orlando Sentinel, Hoiberg recently interviewed with the Magic. I have been hearing all along from one specific source that Hoiberg would end up in the NBA next season but it wouldn't for sure be with the Bulls. Now that all makes sense.
--- Reports surfaced on Friday that Iowa State assistant coach T.J. Otzelberger is the preferred choice of Jamie Pollard's going forward.
--- As great of a hire as I think it would be, I do not believe that Jeff Hornacek will replace Hoiberg.
--- It's strange how all of this has played out. Pollard coaching searches are usually so quiet. This one though? With the Otzelberger reports and Hornacek being all over the place, it's been very loud - very weird.
This from a different thread that was conveniently closed:
Re: List of potential replacements should Fred Hoiberg leave
So as of yesterday afternoon no contact yet with Hornacek by search committee /service, or ISU. More and more I am told, sounds like he would consider an offer but ultimately if the Suns came in and offered an extension, he would stay. Cannot emphasize though how much he does not relish the thought of getting in the swamp that is recruiting, that is why the offer needs to be a significant one.
Edit: The person I know is a Hornacek family member I have worked with a long time. I promised the guy I would not bug him this weekend unless Fred thing came official.
So probably will not have much new news til Monday.

I don't think that Chris or any of these media guys are working an agenda, but you have to keep in mind they get their info from sources.
And sources often do have agendas.
How do they bring Otz back if Matt doesn't leave. He was making room. Simple as that. Don't be suprise if Matt A ends up in Chicago this year or next, likely in the front office.
Exactly.
