How many games did you win last year?I'm there with ya now. As a baseball coach who preaches "ya gotta fight through adversity" mantras every day, its time to embrace this as an opportunity.

There is much more smoke out there suggesting Hornacek hasn't been contacted. I haven't seen anything to suggest he has...not that that means much. But it's worth at least bringing up the question.
Man, the meltdown around here is going to be EPIC.
Some of you are ridiculous. Fred is doing what he thinks is best for him and his family. He doesnt care what a bunch of random, anonymous posters/fans think. We have known since the beginning that Fred wanted to coach in the NBA. Everyone here would do the same thing if they were in his position. Has Fred and ISU handled this perfectly? No, but with the Bulls situation and Fred's surgery, they handled it the best they could.
Instead of acting like immature little children, how about we all be grateful for what Fred did here and wish him the best.
If JP fails to do any sort of search so he can hire his buddy Otz, that is absolutely terrible. Hornacek would obviously at least pick up the phone (based on some of his comments this week). Perhaps Hornacek is just jockeying for an extension, but failing to talk to him is absolutely terrible. I guess it shouldn't be a surprise though, JP hired McDermott and picked Chizik over Jim Harbaugh (Jim Harbaugh freaking wanted to coach here!).
Surprised about how many people are wanting Otz as their #1 choice. If we hire Otz, I will fall in line, but damn..... Don't you guys realize how big of a gamble this is? We're giving someone that may or may not have been hired by a low major school the head coaching job at a P5 school that is a top 10 team in the country. That is insanity. If Pollard makes the wrong decision everything that ISU has gained the last 5 year as far as being nationally relevant gets flushed down the toilet.
He's not staying and at this point do we really even want him to? He would not be able to recruit without a 4-5 year commitment which he would not give.
Coaching firm has been hired. Hornacek's agent has likely been contacted. Hornacek maintains ambiguous position. He is under contract to the Suns for next year at $2 million per year. A good year and he gets a lot of money. Hornacek seems to be an NBA guy. All of the posturing could be about getting a better deal from the Suns.
Chizik was the sexy hire, if you go back to that time. It was considered a coup.
NOTE to the "why publish that article" crowd: Because if a deal really was in place for months like some had indicated, that's a bad look for Iowa State's head coach. I had to know if that was true. If a coach knows he is on his way out, is he really recruiting the same way as a guy trying to build for the future? That type of stuff. I wanted to dig into it.
Hoiberg's reputation should mean something here. I was not surprised to learn that the whole "gentlemen's agreement" thing was false.
I agree with you there, but someone stated he was not comfortable doing that out of his relationship with Romar.....but who knows if that is true.....on the flip side, .For those who bashed Matt A for taking Williams and going hard at Diallo for SJ, what could Fred say after he told them he would not promise at being at ISU.
You don't know any of this. You're just making this stuff up.
You've been posting a lot lately saying.... "my sources tell me...." blah, blah, blah. You have no "sources" at all. Most of your imaginary "sources" have been dead wrong.
We can all have "sources" that we make up in our minds and are not real. Sorry, I just don't believe any of your posts regarding "inside" info. You know nothing, just like most of us.
His namebeing floated this much means ISU people have talked to Hornacek people. Of course, ISU still has a coach, so no official communication is possible.
Any of you who think local media or CF or CW have an agenda of using some sort of propaganda to persuade us into the thought of hiring Otz are absolutely ******* pathetic!! Please! Thier career is to report what they find. They are not on the ISU perception payroll. Many of us (not me) were ******** at the same people for even mentioning the POSSIBILITY of Fred to the nba just a couple weeks ago.
It's embarrassing as a fanbase. We're all on the same team here..
If you are one of the people ******** at CW for no actual reason gtfoh! Get off their site.
And at this point, to me, it's not even REMOTELY funny to joke about it. They work very hard for us and take their jobs very seriously. Not to mention they've obviously made it clear they don't think it's funny either.
Situation sucks for everyone but don't bite the hand that feeds you... Go state!
I respect the hell out of Chris Williams, but I have a really hard time believing the Hoiberg camp that no type of deal has ever been discussed.....This has been happening for a long team, and I don't care what people believe me (they didn't believe anything I said in the Romar thread either...), but rumors started about Bulls and ISU in early March, and I would bet an awful lot Fred knew by early last season this was his last at ISU, and that he had "what if" discussions with the Bulls early this year.....
Fred's master plan on leaving ISU after a nice tourney run, and with a great 2015-16 team which would soften his departure was destroyed by the abysmal UAB gm.....and that has made this whole thing the cluster **** it has become...

"what is wrong with ISU as an institution and fanbase that an alum called "the Mayor" doesn't want to stay and become a college basketball legend?"
I never reported that it hadn't been discussed - just that an agreement (formal or informal) was already in place. I could not have a better source when it comes to that.
And I agree with you for the most part. Of course talks have occurred of some sort. Remember the column I wrote and got killed for about a month ago about the Bulls job? This didn't come out of nowhere but I think people do need to step back and remember the type of man Fred is. A damn good one.
As as of yesterday no deal was in place despite what some might lead you to believe. Having said that, I think we can all ag it's imminent that he is the next coach of the Chicago Bulls.
With his health issues, he won't be coaching that much longer IMO, get your money while you can.
