Quite the lame topic I know, but getting a new bed soon and wanted to know CFs opinion on high thread count sheets? Are they really worth the added price or is it a gimmick ? Anything else worth knowing about bedding ? THanks

Yes. I would of never thought of getting them until I got married. If the wife ever comes home with something under 500, shes done.

Yes. Absolutely. I used to try to do the "manly" talk of how it doesn't matter and I could sleep on anything, but it's a world of difference. The 50-70 dollars more you might spend on a good high thread count compared to a low thread count is well worth it. It's like sleeping on a velvet cloud.

Plus, I sleep in the buff, so it makes a difference as opposed to someone that sleeps fully clothed.

100% cotton is very important. And high thread counts are worth it. But I think there is a point where you can't really tell the difference.

It depends. There are ways for the manufacturer to misrepresent the number of threads, or at least count them differently to get a higher count. As with most things, it's more about overall quality than any specific rating.

But, with that said, yes higher quality sheets do really make a difference.

The trade off is between feel and durability. Generally speaking, the higher the thread count the softer they feel but will wear out faster. Also, as others said beware of advertised thread counts (when in doubt just feel them). Find out if you have a Tuesday Morning store close by, best place to get nicer sheets at a discount.

That's where I got my 600 sheets. They're great

I'm a cheapskate. Have them in the guest bedroom while the rest of us suffer. Plus they wear out sooner but aren't used that often in the guest bedroom.

Not all high thread count sheets are made equally. Gotta go to the store and give each one a test drive so to speak, but yes, good sheets are definitely worth it.
