I only know where the ones just off 86th in Urbandale and the one out by 50th and Mills Civic?

The "original" Legends is at 60th and... I think EP True (?)

I just live a couple blocks off of 86th St, close to both Legend's and Okoboji. I prefer Okoboji, but I do like the Legend's in Ames with the good view of campus and all.

Welch Avenue Station- A Drinking Establishment

I don't know about Welch anymore. What's the deal with not being able to start a tab or pay with a credit card?? I went there after the game last weekend with a buddy and we got a pitcher of beer and some food.

They gave us our tab after we got our pitcher, and then again right when we got the food to pay. I gave her a credit card to put down and she said they don't take them, and they can't hold them to start a tab. I loved Welch Avenue Station, but those are the kind of things will make me not want to go back...

I didn't know that, I haven't been there in awhile. I guess most of the time at Welch when I was a student I just paid cash right away anyways. Starting a tab meant you had to remember to close it out and get your credit card back when you went somewhere else. :wideeyed: But I can see where that would be annoying now.

I was pretty dumbfounded by it all. I can't remember the last bar I was at that didn't let me start a tab. Oh, well. To answer the original question, I'll typically go to West Towne or Old Chicago when I come to Ames before or after games. Both have pretty good food, several bar games and tv's.

I went to Legends once, but it just seems so congested or something. I just didn't like the atmosphere, though it was pretty cool to see campus from there. I will probably try it again at some point...

Can't beat Tip-Top chili on gameday! Well you can if you make good chili, but it's a good pit-stop before tailgating! Definitely not what I would consider a sports bar though, something about the 400-lb CRT TV's they have sitting above our heads in the booths!

Where we sat seemed really open, but that's the only time I've been there.

I've gotta go with Welch Ave Station. It's a bit old school as far as the no credit cards goes, but you can order any menu item from the Pizza Pit above, which is nice. Drinks are top quality. They have a wide variety of HD sports channels thru DirecTV. If you're there at off-hours, when the more obscure games are traditionally on, you shouldn't have a problem getting the game on the tv of your choice. Nice local crowd mixed with an even more mixed set of ISU students.

As for Legends, there is one in St. Joseph, Missouri. Definitely falls in the "chain" class.
