I just took a look at the channel guide and it shows regular programming starting 5 p.m. Sunday.

I watched a bit of the "message" DISH shows on ch. 5 and they're playing hardball -- displaying current advertisers (& their phone #s) affected by the interruption so people can contact them to let them know they're not seeing their advertising.

Looks like just a scare tactic by DISH...

(Also very thankful to have the HD antenna on the roof -- even if the wife thinks it's obnoxious!)

keep the locals so you can see what is one in the guide. Otherwise you loose that ability. Adding the OTA is a great add-on to a Dish HD-DVR. Basically you can 'watch' four channels at once.

A lot of the boxes now have guides. I'm not sure how good they are but they do list them on their options.

I'm going to get a couple of boxes by February anyways so I guess I'll try them out before dropping locals.

Here is the antenna I have (thx, brianhos).

It's currently mounted to the east side of my deck, around one of the ballisters. I'm going to move it to the roof eventually and may even upgrade to the DB4 (double the size of the one I have) for increased signal strength. I don't need more signal stregnth 95% of the time though.

Antennas Direct DB2 UHF HDTV Antenna (DB2) | DB2 [Antennas Direct] | DB-2 d-B2 db 2

Basically ya face this guy toward the HD antennas, hook it up, grab a cold one and relax.

Another reason DirecTV is the better choice.

Don't fool yourself. This could happen with any TV service provider and any local station at anytime. It happened with Mediacom and KDSM a couple years ago. It's happening with Dish and WOI now. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a local station pulled off DirecTV at some point in the future (any station except KDSM, since they're owned by Sinclair, which is under the same ownership umbrella as DirecTV).

When have ISU games been on WOI??? Is that ABC?? If so, I doubt we will be on ABC this year.

The Kansas game last year, for one. As ISUFan22 said, it's not inconceivable that we could get at least one game on ABC this year, especially after we start 10-0 and host Missouri on Nov. 15th.

Could I use the antenna that Mediacom gave me during the whole FOX fiasco before I finally got smart and gave them the boot for good?

Worth a shot.

I don't think many FB games have been on...YET, but isn't Channel 5 the channel that carries a lot of the MBB games on it during the season being the local channel. I am pretty sure I watched quite a few MBB games on WOI over the years when I couldn't make it up there or they were on the road.

What is a good HD antenna cost? I am probably going to have to get one now.

A good one will cost $50, in waukee you will need a littler bigger one than I got in ankeny. Probably a 4 bay one will work great for you. Depends on if you can mount it outside or if you need to toss it in the attic.

Here is a good resource:

AntennaWeb

Just go in, plug in your zip, and it will tell you what you need. Either go to solidsignal.com to get it, or just post your results, and we can help you decide what to get.

This is the direction I wouldn't mind going - no need to make sure the antenna doesn't get covered in ice! :)

I think that only catches UHF HD correct? when the analog signals go bye-bye in Feb, 5 and 8 should broadcast their HD back in VHF. Currently they are broadcasting their HD in UHF (>13)

I am I wrong?

hmmmm, I'll have to check this out when I get home tonight. I live in Des Moines so guess just get a simple over the air HD box should be enough for me. I would guess that you'll see it back before long, DISH is not going to lose a major network like ABC for the long term I'd think. On the plus side no more Grey's Anatomy... :biglaugh:

Katherine Heigl (sp?) - aka Izzie - is enough reason for me to watch Grey's.

Yeah you are correct. I am not really sure it matters all that much, but if it does, I will just swap out with a new antenna.

I can't stand this crap. The customer always seems to get screwed by all of this. My parents live 75 miles from Des Moines and about 75 miles from the next ABC afiliate. OTA seems to be a reach without putting up a fricking Tower or something.

This stuff irritates me to no end. I switched from CableOne cable because they were channel dropping like mad from arguments with stations. Now Dish is doing it too. Companies bicker and the consumer of course always gets the shaft and loses.

but for this person.. buying that model might not be a good idea since they will need a new antenna in 9 months.
