I know of places around my hometown but I am trying to find a restaurant that has cook your own steak type deals in the Des Moines or Ames area.

The Open Flame in Gilbert is the only place I've been to like that, and it's very good.

The Open Flame in Gilbert is fantastic. Take Grand in Ames straight north for about 5-8 miles and then a sign will point you left to Gilbert. The open flame is on "main street".

Rubes is good as well.

Montour Rubes (hwy 30 East of Marshalltown) > Open Flame Steakhouse (Gilbert, 10 mintues north of Ames) > Rubes locations other than Montour.

Gilbert is a favorite or mine and any visitors for work from out of state.

Go to Rube's in Montour. But if you think you can "cook" a steak better than a pro, you should stop ordering steak at Perkins.
never had a steak at Perkins.. and I know I cook a better steak than a 'pro'. It isn't hard and.. hot and fast is the way to go.

^^^ that didn't come out right.

I've heard great things about the place in Gilbert, but I am not sure about going somewhere to cook my own steak. What is the appeal? Lower prices? Better cuts of meat? I am serious in my question.
