My wife and I were immensely impressed with The Branding Iron, was expecting kind of a hole in the wall but it was really nice inside. Very friendly staff, good food. I would have them grill it next time I go though, I prefer to sit and relax if I'm spending $50+ on a meal, not have to stand at the grill and cook it. But a really nice place overall.

We went there one night, and I ordered my steak, and when we went up to pick out our meat, they were out of the cut that I had asked for. The wait staff was incredibly friendly and they immediately upgraded me to the giant 24oz porterhouse at no extra cost. It was the most expensive steak on the menu. nearly double the cost of my original steak. I was very impressed. I would definitely reccomend The Branding Iron to anyone in the Nevada area.

Iowa Beef Steakhouse on Euclid in Des Moines.

See now, I think this place is hit or miss. I went twice in '08. One time I was really, really unimpressed. Ordered the fillet and was very sorry. They cooked it for me to correct temp and level of being done....but the meat was boring. I've had better steak at Applebees. The 2nd time I didn't get the fillet, but still, the steak was just okay.

A good steak should be about the meat, maybe some salt and pepper... Applebees ruins their steaks throwing a bunch of spices and sauces on them...

I'm with many here. I've tried Rubes in Waukee and the Open Flame. I just don't get the appeal. Another downside is standing around the grill and getting hot and stinky.

My question is, why would you even set foot in a place like Applebees if you're going to order steak???

I dont, but about once a year I am like that picture doesn't look to bad, maybe they learned how to cook steaks and then I get it and remember why I never order steaks from Applebees.

So you never cook outside during the summer?

I feel the same about Outback, though every once in a while it is ok for me to have a seasoned steak. I prefer them with just a little salt and pepper on the meat prior to the grill 99 times out of 100.

To each their own though, my step-day lives for that bourbon grill steak at Applebees or what ever the name is.
