Wherever I go, there I am.
I thought you were a nerdy lawyer, not a nerdy engineer. (this is coming from a nerdy accountant)

For arguments sake, let's apply this logic to other situations.

There is no such thing as hunger, just an absence of food.
There is no such thing as sober, just an absence of booze.
There is no such thing as marriage, just an absence of sex.
There is no such thing as Iowa men's basketball, just an absence of fans.
I'm a Renaissance Nerd.

I'm seeing (via my work sources) projections for below-average temps through March and April for central IA
The forecast I'm referencing doesn't project beyond the first few days of April. But early March is above average and late March about normal. The most important part though is a hard break from the polar air we've been experiencing, hopefully for the last time this spring.

A lot of you seem way more upset that I am annoyed by "feels like" temp usage, than I am about how its used.

I posted an observation, and slight annoyance of the usage. And woof some of you cant handle it.

Sorry, but I think you all think I am way more angry than I am, and you all seem way more upset about that than you should be.

Its ******* cold outside, I agree, happy now?

Moving on.
Jesus bro. Stop telling at that cloud old man!

Pffff, when I lived in North Dakota that was the cut off of when kids wore shorts to school.

Like I said a lot of you think I am way more angry about this than I am. Really I posted about a MINOR annoyance and many on here lost their mind. It seems many on here are way more angry about my minor annoyance than I am actually annoyed by what I was saying.

As can be seen by the continued overreactions to my post its obvious.

It was a basic observation on my part, that slightly annoys me. The overreactions to my said observation are more annoying than my initial point.

As far as that goes Im very far from angry, maybe I am coming off as such, but believe me, I am far from it.
omg calm down!

The funny thing is nobody lost their mind. If multiple people are saying you are a bit over the top maybe it isn't everyone else. Take 30 seconds and be self aware. Ffs

It reminds me, not having to mow could be the best thing about winter.
This has honestly been the greatest winter of my life where i live. I've had three snows of less than two inches and one at 6" that required equipment to move. I'd take that every year. I'll happily trade that for a few extra cuts of the lawn, easy call.

Yes, its cold, but in reality not as bad as some want to believe.

I mean everyone goes by "feels like" now.

No -20 "feels Like" is not the same as -20 actual temp, which is what we all used to go by, a few years ago.

Because at -20 actual..... which is how we all figured out temperature until someone decided "feels like" was more important........ is probably more like -40 "feels like".

So a few years ago when it got to -20 outside everyone new yeah add the windchill and its really really cold.
Now everyone says well the feels like is below 0, so its really cold, like back when we went by actual temperature.

I get it, to a point. But people have conflated feels like to actual temps, and that is just not the case. I worked a lot of days outside, when actual temp was below -20 degrees, and I will tell you that when the actual temp gets that cold, it is a lot colder than when the "feels like" temp is -20.

They changed how they calculate wind chill (feels like) temp about a decade ago too, which actually changed the overall understanding of that calculation too. At some point when we change how we measure things, that have been measured that way for as long as measurements have existed, it doesnt make things more understandable.

Its cold, just not -20 cold. Even though a lot of people now claim its that cold, because of the "feels like" temp.

If I spray you with a water bottle, you are wet, but not as wet as if I throw you in a lake.

Its all relative.

Im in the DM Metro area now.
It was about 1 above today, which is cold, but not as bad as some try to say, when they use the feels like temp.

Forecast for -15 overnight. Which is cold, but most of us wont be outside. Although working outside in the middle of the night was a regular occurrence for me for many years, which did suck on the nights it was below -20, but I worked in extreme far north Iowa and in the lower half of MN during those years.

Didnt mean to claim it is not cold, just that I hate all the new "feels like" crap a lot of people seem to use anymore.

That being said, if my family would, I totally would be living far south of here, as many years of working in all weather outside, I have had my fill of winter, and hate everything about it. So I would be in TX, AZ or FL probably at this point if I could.

So yeah its cold.

Its not about wind chill. Yes I know its been around a long time. My point was when you would talk about the weather up until a few years ago, people would say its going to be 5 below with a -20 wind chill.

Now many times people dont even talk about the actual temp they only want to go by the "feels like" temp. And as I said, -20 feels like is very cold yes, but actual temp of -20 is colder. Because a few years ago, people talked about the actual temp and then assumed the wind chill on top of it.

Now we hear people say "it feels like -20 out, so its the same as when it was actually -20" But that is just false because almost always actual -20 will have a much lower wind chill itself. Like I said its fine to go by "feels like" temp, with the understanding its not the same thing as what the actual actual temps.

Not a grudge, just an annoying observation, of how things have changed.

You've posted over 600 words in the 1st 5 pages of this thread complaining about the use wind chills & feel like temps. You're very defensive whenever anyone points out that no, it's not some epidemic of anyone trying to make today's -20 "feels like" temp equate to 1990's "actual" -20 temp..

It's not this huge problem you're making it out to be. I'd argue you didn't mention it as a 'minor annoyance' that you're playing it off as now, as you were pretty adamant that "everyone" only goes by the feels like temp these days.
