McKnight just scored and got 2 rebounds in the colorado game, how could he do that and be redshirted at the same time lol?

Basketball has weird redshirting rules that allow RS players to still get PT, IIRC. It's really odd if you ask me.

I am about done with this transfer thing. Burning a scholarship for a year so we can wait to get one year of play out of a guy just seems crazy at this point. Our team needs some reserves. the transfer situation can really be seen this year as we have no usable bench. I was hoping Fred was done doing this. We have our shot in the arm, and I would like to see future scholarships going to players who will be on scholarship for a few years and not have to wait to see the floor. I dream of having 13 eligible players competing in a game.

If there is a scholly available next year, its would not cause a problem with depth. We'll be plenty deep next year. Allen, Scott, Babb, Ejim, White, Godfrey, Railey, Booker, 3 new guards, another freshman recruit.

The real question is 2012. Would the coaches rather have a 1 year PG in 2012 and save a scholly for 2013, or do they like a recruit in 2012 more. Thats the real key.

It doesn't make much sense to use a scholarship for 2 years on a guy who can only play 1.

This^^

Surprising how many posters completely miss the point of this transfer. Comparing him to a one and done Barnes is stupid. First, he isn't Barnes and he will not be playing right away.

Comparing him to great JC transfers that don't sit out is stupid.

Again, the main issue is whether it is worth it to burn 2 scholly-yrs for 1 year and gone.

Fred's call. But at least let's stop with the irrelevant comparisons.

Only in case of injury. You can't play a second and then redshirt unless you get hurt.

What does DP have to do with this?

I look at Korie as taking a scholarship from a talented HS player that I assume we are in on. At least I assumed we were in on some talent that didn't necessitate taking a 1 year transfer. Maybe we aren't. I had higher hopes.

I'm opposed but Fred's the coach.

Maybe there is more talent we're in on in the 2013 class and tying up a scholarship with a 2012 recruit isn't the best idea.

If we get Lucious we will still have 11 other players on the roster that are not one and done. It evens out the classes. It's not a bad thing people.

If he helps us win sooner, sign him up. Than we can start recruiting the top 100 talent in the country

Some of Iowa State's best teams were built on transfers and guys that got passed over by the "powerhouses" for various issues.

(Bayless, Willoughby, Pratt, Cato, Bankhead, Tinsley)

Let's face it, Iowa State is not a destination school for the top high school talent right now.

You have to take calculated risks at times.

Don't forget Horton and maybe Nurse, although he may have come in a freshman.

ISU's best teams of the last 20 years have been littered with transfers/jucos.

Anyone still talking about McKnight taking a redshirt needs to have their basketball cred severely docked.

How many of those had to sit out a year to only play one year?

I wonder if the Syracuse boards got all bent out of shape about this with respect to Wesley Johnson?

not a fan either, would prefer a 4 yr player, but if this is the best we can get then id welcome him

I'd prefer a talented 4 year player, but if it is a choice between a fringe 4 year player and Lucious with a better chance of getting a talented 4 year player in 2013, then I'd take Lucious in a heartbeat.

It makes sense. Right now we are recruiting for 2012 with no recent history of success. Might be hard to lure elite talent. However, if things pan out next year and we have an NCAA tournament team (no guarentee), it would be easier to land a big recruit in 2013.

He shot 31% this year, with 4 out of 18 games in double figures. 10, 11, 13, 20 pts. We need to build south for after these transfers for next year leave.
CFH offense would probably give him more opportunity. Sometimes MSU runs an offense like molasses.

Unfortunately, the kind of talent we need to compete in our conference is the kind of talent that does not stay in school for 4 years. We need to recruit more guys that will only be around 1 or 2 years...not less.

You gotta have the horses, man!!

They knew in the spring of 2008 WJ would leave after one year? One and done because they played well enough to be a top-5 NBA draft pick is also a lot different than graduating.

Anyone with any common sense knew that as old as WJ was if he had a decent season he would be gone to the pros.
