Shocker!!! The guy who knows more than Coach Rhoads also knows more than Coach Hoiberg. What's next, got a bone to pick with Stephen Hawking?

Opposing opinions aren't welcome? Is this lemming.com?

HB isn't a remotely fair comparison. As for Gilstrap, I'd rather have a talented 3-4 year player in a New York minute. We'll have plenty of guards when Korie is eligible. If Korie was a 'big' I might have a different attitude.

We'll lose SC and Allen next year. It will be nice to have another upperclassmen guard to go along with Babb.

I'd take Lucious for one year on the court and one year on the practice squad over a Demarcus Phillips on the bench for two years any day!

Exactly. There is no guarentee that if you bring in some freshman as a warm body that he is gonna stick around for 4 years or even ever see the court if he does. Have you guys already forgotten what happened with all these borderline D1 players McDermott brought in the last 4 years? How many are still on the team?

Good teams don't go 13 deep into their bench unless they are blowing out a team. The reason we are struggling with 8 eligible scholarship players is because of inexperience and lack of athleticism, not just depth.

With a proven guy like Kory you pretty much know what you're gonna get. It's a known quantity and I'm sure CFH will properly weigh whether it is worth the burned scholarship year or not.

He was starting guard for 2 Final Four teams. He's worth at least a look as there's no certainty about future point guards will do vs. tough competition.

I like it. Well known name from a big time program with tons of experience on a winning team. If nothing else it is a good recruiting tool.

He is a good guard. May not have high average numbers but he can light it up on a given night.

Honestly, I'm all for transfers, they are stuck here. I'm sick and tired of bringing in these freshman only to have them bolt after their first year.

Who said he wasn't entitled to his opinion? I'm just pointing out my lack of surprise in the attitude taken by this particular poster. It was about as predictable as the ending of a Disney movie.

Don't be confused by the stats, Korie is a very nice talent. He is one of the quicker guards in the NCAA. Makes a lot of sense to take him for 2012-2013. With Scott and Allen gone, he would fill a guard spot nicely. He and McGee could both play both guard spots. It gives the back-court some flexibility and allows Sledge/Odunsi/Cook more time to develop.

2012-2013
G-Luscious (Sr.)
G-McGee (Sr.)
G-Babb (Sr.)
F-Ejim (Jr.)
C-White (Jr.)

With Booker (Sr.) Godfrey (Jr.) Railey (Jr.) Palo (Jr.) Sledge (So.) Odunsi (So.) Cook (So.) and McKnight (Jr.) off the bench.

Who knows what happens with player attrition, but that squad would have some great speed/athleticism to play CFH's style.

He shot 31% this year, with 4 out of 18 games in double figures. 10, 11, 13, 20 pts. We need to build south for after these transfers for next year leave.

Pass! Id much rather have Bubu than get this guy with one year left and ALL that baggage. Hes never shot even close to 40% from the field in any of his 3 years. please hint waste a scholly on a guy like this when we could get a 2012 kid that will prob be better

Personally, I'd prefer Korie since he is a much better basketball player than Bubu.

So, you wouldn't have wanted Marquis Gilstrap or Harrison Barnes (if he went pro after one year) on the team?
They would have played right away, so you are not tying up a scholarship on a guy who is on the bench, get one year out of him, and then he is done. That is why JUCOs are more popular than trasnfers. They play right away, give your team a boost, then move on leaving a scholarship open for the next guy. There is no downtime waiting for a kid to be eligible.

I am about done with this transfer thing. Burning a scholarship for a year so we can wait to get one year of play out of a guy just seems crazy at this point. Our team needs some reserves. the transfer situation can really be seen this year as we have no usable bench. I was hoping Fred was done doing this. We have our shot in the arm, and I would like to see future scholarships going to players who will be on scholarship for a few years and not have to wait to see the floor. I dream of having 13 eligible players competing in a game.

Our team will have tons of depth at guard next year with Lucious sitting out. Seriously, please think about this for a second. We will have Sledge, Odunsi, Bubu, Scottie, Allen and Babb. Lucious on the bench will not impact our guard depth at all!

Having 13 eligible players is unecessary, most teams play 8 to 9 man rotations, 10-11 at the very most.

So we're officially becoming the place misfits go for second chances??

I'm all for getting better talent, but I never thought CFH would be interested in doing it this way.

BUT, that said, hopefully they have learned from their mistakes and won't be a problem here.

Exactly. I think some of the posters who are worried about his numbers need to be aware of facts like this. He has played on some great teams. Its very obvious that we need some leadership and clutch play at the end of games.

Shocker! The cyclone apologist comes on to bash my post. You could always offer up your own opinions, you know. That is what the forum is for. And nice Stephen Hawking comparison. A guy who is reknowned for his work, with multiple awards, being compared to two first time coaches, who only look great to us because we have such low expectations at ISU we will get excited over anything. When Rhoads is winning 7-9 games a year, and Hoiberg has back to back NCAA appearances, I will say trust the coaches. Until then I am on the skeptical bandwagon. Go ahead and be behind every decision they make, if that is your perogative.

Last time I checked we are 1-7 in the Big 12. I don't think we're in a position to turn down final four talent. We have to close the gap between ISU and the rest of the Big 12 and fast. I'm trusting Fred on this one.

I also like the idea of bringing him in. How nice will that be to have a highly experienced guard challenging Allen, Babb, and SC on the scout team next year.

Some of Iowa State's best teams were built on transfers and guys that got passed over by the "powerhouses" for various issues.

(Bayless, Willoughby, Pratt, Cato, Bankhead, Tinsley)

Let's face it, Iowa State is not a destination school for the top high school talent right now.

You have to take calculated risks at times.

We would be building our scout team for next year.
