So if you are already in shape or already work out on a regular basis, is P90X going to change anything? I am thinking about checking it out, but I don't need to lose weight or tone up, I'm just getting bored...
I get the idea this is more of a program for people who are just getting back into working out.
I'd say unless you’re a high end or elite athlete or doing triathlons year round this workout will challenge you. It's a really good total body workout…… stretching, yoga, strength, agility, etc. It's a good mix with tons and tons of variation. The abs workout is only 16 min and I couldn't do 60sec. without taking a break the 1st couple of times.
My wife is in extremely good shape. She runs 15-20 miles per week, does strength training 3 times a week, and works very hard. She's done the P90x strength training days with me (Chest and Back, Shoulders and arms, Legs and Back, and Abs ripper X) and she has found new limits.
As for me, I've been in better shape in years past but I still worked out 3-5 times per week with cardio 30-40min and lifting 2-3 times a week. I just had a hard time getting motivated and really got board. I was looking for something challenging and something that would push me. So far this has been it. The best thing is I get to workout with my wife at home. Personally I get better work outs when I'm with her and she's a real trooper. Even with this she still works harder than me.
The workouts are 55-92min long. There is not much if any down time and when you do get it your trying to catch up with your breath or tracking what you just did. My heart rate stays around 150bpm for every workout. Then bam it's over with some stretching and cool down.
I’m starting my 3rd week and I’m just starting to get the hang of some of the moves and what’s next. It's not just pushups and pullups it's 6 different forms of pushups and 7 variations of pullups (wide front grip, reverse grip, close grip front, super wide fronts, switch grip, reverse close grip). And that's just the phas one stuff. Next week things get changed up with a different workouts and different sequences then in week 5 we start with 3 out of 7 new workouts for 3 more weeks. Haven’t seen them but can’t wait to do them.
