I can see where we get to a point that kids start opting out mid season to avoid injury. Like someone else said, why just opt out of a bowl game. A bowl game is the most important game of the season. That’s what the regular season games are for. If a kid is projected first round after the third game of the season, I could see more and more kids deciding to shut it down and avoid injury.

It was mentioned several times last night that Clemson had no players opt out of the game, how many pros do they have on their roster?

Bad look for a 5 star culture team to have key players sit, they put themselves above the team.
Firstly, this is a dumb f'ng thread. But beyond that, we were one dumb mistake and a shanked field goal from winning. We went toe to toe with CLEMSON who didn't have any opt-outs. And they were so excited to beat IOWA STATE that they did the CheezIt and Gatorade bath on their coaches. THINK ABOUT THAT FOR A MINUTE!

Earlier this year Texas Tech STORMED THE FIELD after beating Iowa State, and now CLEMSON doing a Gatorade bath after beating ISU! We're getting there folks. So F-OFF with stupid threads like this.

I don't fault any player for sitting out to prep for the NFL draft. Avoiding injury, training to have a great combine, etc. can have a HUGE financial impact for these kids.

Look at NFL money for a first round pick
  • Mac Jones - selection 14: 4 year contract totaling $15.6M
  • Najee Harris (RB) - selection 24: 4 year contract totaling $13.1M.
  • Joe Tryon-Shoyinka - selection 32: 4 yer contract totaling $11.0M.
Just a few spots in the draft can amount to millions on a player's initial contract.

Here are some 2nd/3rd round data points from the 2021 draft:
  • Tyson Campbell - Round 2, selection 1: 4 years totaling $9.0M
  • Rondale Moore- Round 2, selection 14: 4 years totaling $6.9M
  • Kyle Trask - Round 2, selection 32: 4 years totaling $5.5M
  • Chauncey Golston - Round 3, selection 20: 4 years totaling $4.9M
From a guarantee $ standpoint:
  • Harris earned $13.1M
  • Moore earned $4.0M
  • Golston earned $935k
So if you put yourself in Breece Hall's shoes and leverage your ISU education- do you play in a bowl game where you could suffer an injury?

The other side of this, the NFL combine is very specialized training. Not sure if Breece has already started training, but trimming a 40 time from 4.55 to 4.5 could be worth millions and "getting out of the blocks" can be the difference. Think about it, half a second. It takes me longer to break wind;)

So it is a big deal for a team not to have opt outs?!

That difference isn't half a second, it is five one hundredths of a second or one twentieth of a second.

I'm sure Jaylon Smith doesn't have an opinion on this...

He is the poster guy for not playing bowl games. Not only did his bowl injury cost him millions on his initial contract. But 5 years into his NFL career he might be done because of loss of mobility from the injury.

Sure, the injury could have happened any time during his ND career and chances are minimal to have a catastrophic injury in a game- but we are talking life changing, multi-generational money for himself and his family. Fortu

I was sort of surprised with their recent history (playoffs) and the pro talent on their team they didn't have any opt outs for something like the "Cheez it" bowl.

What part of the take is wrong? It's the exact kind of language used. How about instead of just slinging arrows, you try and show what evidence you have to refute it?

Which part? The fans and athletic department are like slave drivers...........or being able to opt out is like being emancipated?

"The fact that the logic he was using ("Absolutely entitled... now they think they need to be paid with the NIL has started to run rampant."

To say that these athletes are entitled because they are looking to get paid for their likeness, or sitting out to protect their bodies, so they shouldn't do either is the same logic used "things they want is entitled!! We shouldn't change the system!" Not about the athletic department, it's about the individual member who made that comment, and thinks athletes protecting their worth is being "entitled"

Yep. If they want to stop it, they'll have to change up the rules but it's not like you can just force a kid to play even if they're on the roster.
