It's the new culture of college football much like college basketball with transfers/early entree etc. so the choice is deal with it or find something else to do.

Back in my day I was glad to be at an ISU football game........and miffed by halftime it was all but over. And do it over and over and over. Finding something else to do was never an option. That was the "culture" of ISU football. Happy and mad. As an ISU fan this "new culture" doesn't change that. I'm thrilled ISU is in a position to be in these games.....yet a little miffed that outside of injury...... ISU's best team wasn't on the field. It isn't an either/or.

Where does your slippery slope end then? Guys are so entitled these days I could see players hanging it up 3 games into the season and riding the gravy train of free tuition and NIL the rest of the year while their teammates ate busting their arses for nothing.
How is entitlement aligned with hanging it up a game early? Or even 3 games early?

Entitlement is paying for tickets or donating money and somehow thinking you have earned the right to tell a young adult how they should make their decisions.

Breece Hall played 36 games for Iowa State. He practiced and trained countless times more. He worked with his family and the coaching staff and likely NFL advisors to understand the pros and cons of playing in yesterday's game and decided the best thing for him to do is to sit so he can avoid injury.

And then to condescendingly say the other players are playing for nothing on top of that?

Entitled. These players are entitled? What a joke.

These players are smart and doing what’s best for business. Glad that BH has learned something over the past three years besides football.

I don't blame Breece one bit for sitting this one out. He gave and gave and gave so much to ISU for 3 years and is one of biggest reasons why ISU is on the map. It's his turn to lookout for himself now. I think if you spoke with his teammates they would say the same.

Cool but 'back in the day' doesn't work since it's not going to change.

If you're talking anything prior to 2010 or so you're talking hardly ever seeing a sold out stadium or even remotely close so I guess there were other things to do and people survived.

Would I have liked to see Breece play sure; and would I have liked to see Mike play the rest of the season like he played prior to the OSU game; sure, but we all know the guy is not healthy and is basically playing with one arm. This was the teams decision (they both were on the sidelines) and thus I support the decision not to play.

IMHO, I will put my feelings on this thread in language most fanatics will understand; anyone who agrees with the OP, please do not stop by my tailgate next year, you are not welcome; and if you're out of beer, I will not supply you any!

Why not quit earlier in the season if you're worried about getting injured? We had no shot at a conference title prior to the Oklahoma game.
JFC, the regular season ended almost a month ago. The combine is only 2 months away. Potentially throwing a month of recovery away on a bowl game is not worth it for these guys. If Hall goes out and sprains his ankle and loses 4 to 6 weeks of training in a 2 month time span before the combine that is enormous for these guys. People are so ******* dense on this subject.

You can tear a knee preparing for the combine. There is value to the program in hearing David Montgomery from ISU on Sundays but let's not forget the games that lead to that outcome.

I guess we should only practice in bubble wrap.
I think your concussion is Exhibit 'A'.

I'm not disagreeing about the combine situation. I advocated that he should have quit earlier.

Absolutely entitled, it was a general statement about college athletes in 2021 not a specific comment about Iowa State. It's only in the last few years where this culture of transfers and sitting out bowl games, now they think they need to be paid with the NIL has started to run rampant.

Its actually a microcosm of society in general that will continue to get worse.

If you're going to blame anyone for this situation, blame those who enabled it to happen. We all knew what was going to happen when the new transfer rules changed, as well as when the NIL was set in motion. Same for those who chastise NFL and MLB players for making millions. Don't blame them, blame the owners who throw out exorbitant contract offers. One could say they're worth what anyone is willing to pay them. No one is going to turn down the freedom to transfer out if they feel the need, or want to get paid. It's not entitlement, it's them taking advantage of the opportunity that's been given to them.

Your comments are the exact same kind as slave drivers during emancipation. "what's next?! They ask to vote?! They ar so entitled!"

You're in the wrong side here.

College football as we have known it is over. Adjust or jump out the window. Hopefully, a semi pro league of top 25-30 colleges form so I can ignore them. The rest can then develop a more typical college football system. Our teams will be full of low three stars and unrated players who know that
employment after college will be non football playing related. Just think, ISU may be playing Harvard in non league. Food for thought.

In 1990 the NFL changed its rules to allow underclassmen to declare early for the NFL draft. Thus began the scourge of entitlement in college football.

Countless players have since left college early to enter the NFL. I'm sure nobody is watching college football anymore. The entire sport was ruined.

Or was it,,,

Donate your entire salary to ISU Athletics. Or do you put your family's best interest over the Cyclones?

I didn't make a commitment to the athletic department so that wil not be happening. However if I had made the commitment but thought about spending the last payment on my family I would still fulfill my commitment to the athletic department.
