"The fact that the logic he was using ("Absolutely entitled... now they think they need to be paid with the NIL has started to run rampant."

To say that these athletes are entitled because they are looking to get paid for their likeness, or sitting out to protect their bodies, so they shouldn't do either is the same logic used "things they want is entitled!! We shouldn't change the system!" Not about the athletic department, it's about the individual member who made that comment, and thinks athletes protecting their worth is being "entitled"

Well that's real nice.......but how is any of that analogous to slave driving and emancipation?

Caesars Sportsbook has been running promotions to get $150 gift card for NFL/NBA gear. I just used my NBA gift card to buy former ISU players NBA gear. Breece’s decision to opt out will be considered if they run the promo again next NFL season.

And yes, I know, Breece will get over it.

I'm sure Jaylon Smith doesn't have an opinion on this...

What sucks most about his injury was that it was on a cheap shot after the play was over. Was glad that he was able to play a while in the NFL and did get a pretty nice contract from Dallas.

He is the poster guy for not playing bowl games. Not only did his bowl injury cost him millions on his initial contract. But 5 years into his NFL career he might be done because of loss of mobility from the injury.

Sure, the injury could have happened any time during his ND career and chances are minimal to have a catastrophic injury in a game- but we are talking life changing, multi-generational money for himself and his family. Fortu
Someone declaring for the draft will hire an agent if he's smart. If the agent is smart, he'll advise him not to play in a bowl game. If the player is smart, he'll listen to his agent. It's a business. Of course we all admire a player who goes ahead and plays in the bowl game, but I don't think less of the character of one who doesn't.

I’m middle of the road on this issue. It’s totally understandable why a player would make either choice. I wish Hall had played in the game, and it’s disappointing that he chose not to. And yet, I still think he’s awesome and we were lucky to have him. Thanks for being a Cyclone, BH, and all the best to you in the NFL.

I love how a person assumed I was talking about him. At least there is some self awareness. Well done thread!
And alot of people think you are stupid also for taking your stance. We aren't talking about Covid vaccines here where there is only 1 right answer, people will have differing opinions on whether they like players opting out or not, so deal with it.

It was mentioned several times last night that Clemson had no players opt out of the game, how many pros do they have on their roster?

Bad look for a 5 star culture team to have key players sit, they put themselves above the team.

We had one player sit. Clemson is a young team with most of their core returning. They are also used to playing in the post season, because they are always in the playoffs/championship game.

The young team we just hung with, will likely be in the playoffs next year.

Was it career ending?
I doesn't have to be career ending to be career altering.

It remains to be seen if his injury last night will impact his draft status, but it's a perfect example of the risk players are considering when they make the decision to play in bowl games or not.

I wonder if we will ever get to a point where NIL agreements will require these players to play a full schedule including bowl games.

Or performance incentives? Not sure if that's within the rules, but that would add a wrinkle.

We could see a RB getting into it with a coach to stay in a game. Trying to get a minimum number of touches for a NIL bonus.

They can try. But look at a school like Alabama, who makes the playoff basically every year. They don't have many opt outs. They don't need to include language in NIL deals to require playing in bowl games. And if if they don't do it, the teams that they're recruiting against won't do it, because they don't want Alabama to use it against them. And if those teams don't do it, how many other teams are going to shy away from the practice for the same reason? In the recruiting game, very few schools want to be seen as the school that puts more restrictions on their players than others.

How many teams had new head coaches, OCs, DCs, etc. for their bowl game because they moved on to new teams? Nobody seems to have an issue with that.

Cool thing is you can be wrong about this and wallow in misery as you whine about an athlete.
