If I was an ISU fan and wanted to become a doctor and I went to Iowa, I would instantly become an Iowa fan. All previous allegiance is lost IMO.

Unless you go to a FCS, DIV II/III, school, you should drop your previous allegiance no matter what, mainly because it is OK to have a bigger program to follow (you guys call them tavern fans but w/e).
I don't think it's that black and white. For instance if you grow up your whole life less than 10 miles from the Iowa State campus and are a born and raised Cyclone, then decide to go to another school because it has the program you want, it's not that easy to just drop your allegiance like it's nothing. There is a sense of loyalty.

This. It's not just ISU that has this (obviously) - you will see ISU shirts in Iowa City, Kansas shirts in Manhattan, Mich shirts in Columbus, etc... I saw lots of Iowa shirts on ISU campus when I was in school - didn't bother me at all. Hell - I saw a lot of Texas shirts. Probably more than Iowa.

With that said, you DO NOT want to be wearing a Hawk shirt on campus this week within 30 feet of AJ. Decapitation is a strong possibility. You have been warned.

Way to go A.J. Klein!!! Iowa State graduates who root for the Hawkeyes over the Cyclones, quite frankly, makes me angry. Go A.J. Klein and Go Cyclones!!!

To each their own I suppose...but I guess I really don't understand the "if i went to iowa I'd be an iowa fan" train of thought. kinda fairweather IMO, unless you really had no allegiance to a team before you showed up to class freshman year of college. I grew up a hawkeye fan in eastern iowa just because that's all i knew about as a kid. the media in eastern iowa really sucked at the time when it came to Cyclone reporting (and to a lesser extent, it still sucks.) But I changed to the Cyclones in 8th grade (before HS obvs) due to watching Seneca Wallace and he was in the news NATIONALLY and couldn't be ignored in eastern iowa. He was the main reason I wanted to be a Clone fan, but after some research on ISU and attending some Cyclone games and feeling like I was apart of something I decided to change. It was just an electric time. Never looked back, never will. Clone to the Bone, even if i ever decided to attend the U of I for any reason.

I use to work at a hospital and what I observed is MD's are fans of the school they attended as an undergrad.

Nah, where you did your undergrad > any subsequent school you attend.

Derp. Other way around. Undergrad always carries more allegiance.

There's nothing "fairweather" about cheering for the school you actually attend.

I love the argument "well, what if you were a Hawkeye fan as a kid? You can't just change your allegiances because you wanted to be an engineer." When I was a little kid, I used to **** my pants and think girls were icky. Was I supposed to stay an incontinent asexual for the rest of my life, or was I supposed to grow and adapt?

“It’s irritating. You should have pride in your school and where you go. I don’t care if you go out of state. For me, I’m from Wisconsin. I grew up a Wisconsin fan. It doesn’t mean anything. I don’t like Wisconsin. I’m an Iowa State Cyclone. I always will be and I am always going to support my team, my school and my University. I think it is a punch to the jaw if you are a school here and you don’t support your own team.â€

Love it. I have been saying that for years. AJ is a TRUE CYCLONE.

Remember the reputation thread from earlier this year? The one where I'm on page 11 (of 11), 8 pages behind Jon Miller? Could you please fix that?
:wideeyed::twitcy:

I'm sorry, but didn't your mommy ever tell you that you can't be fixed?

I think there is a grad school exception. You shouldn't flaunt it but if you are an ISU grad at Iowa for grad school or vice versa you don't have to hide your undergrad stuff away until graduation. That's the one instance where I don't mind an ISU student wearing Iowa gear.

I live in Iowa City and I'm not going to show up on Friday night at the Ped Mall wearing ISU gear (other than during Beat Iowa Week) because that would be stupid of me. No need to pick a fight with drunk ********. But that doesn't mean I'm going to avoid wearing it if I'm out shopping or at work or anything. Just like if I get invited to a tailgate in IC (other than this week) I'll show up in something neutral or in the other team's colors, not ISU gear.

Grew up on the western side of the state, born in nebby and raised a neb fan. Entire family are die-hard. I got sick of it and when I decided where I was going to college, as a sophmore in high school, I cut all allegiances to kNU and became a cyclone fan. Mom was ****** when I threw my husker coat away, but, w/e. My children will learn that they will go to ISU if it has a good program that they want to pursue. They will not attend EIU. I will pay for Drake or Creighton for medical if they so choose, or somewhere else. Scholarships be damned.

All In.

That last question is kind of loaded. You might not want answers to it.

Honestly, i don't have a huge problem with an Iowa fan wearing an Iowa shirt on campus to class or anything. If i'd gone to iowa i can guarantee i would've likely done the same. If you're going to stay in-state, depending on your major sometimes you don't have a whole lot of choice as to where you're going.

Now at the stadium on a non-iowa week? Thats a different story. I wouldn't go to an Iowa game not involving ISU and wear ISU clothing (i'd go neutral or pick up some of the other team's gear). I dont know why so many hawks love to come to ISU games decked in hawk gear.

We've been over this. They are d-bags. A Cyclone fan that wears Cy gear to a random Hawk game is a d-bag as well.

I disagree. I don't think it's possible to make an instant transformation if you were truly a fan in the first place.

If I had gone to Iowa (and I strongly considered it), I'd be a Hawkeye.

Even if you didn't convert, why draw attention to it expect to **** people off. Especially when you going to a rival.

I grew up a WSU fan, if I had gone to UW for their geology program (which I thought about), I would not have become a husker fan as they are arch rivals. ISU is now my favorite program and I would cheer for them against WSU anytime, but I wouldn't have been able to completely give up cheering for the cougars which you almost have to do when your talking about rivals.

What if it's not just when you're a little kid? What if you cheer for them your whole life up through high school and even a few years after before going to another school? I assume you weren't still ******** your pants and thinking girls were icky at that point. Some people feel a sense of loyalty to the team they cheered for their whole life and can't just abandon their allegiance at the drop of a hat.

I grew up a Badger fan but loosely followed ISU. I occasionally will wear UW apparel on campus. My allegiance is now primarily with Iowa State, but I still root for Wisconsin. Obviously we are not rivals with Wisconsin, but if we were, it'd be a different story. No way in hell I would even think about wearing Badger gear on campus. Also I probably would drop all allegiance to Wisconsin if that were the case.
