Still not over it. I have tickets to the Des Moines pod and I selfishly admit I thought they had a real chance to play in their home state.

It would take a miracle to get a #3 seed unless some kind of 6-1 or 5-2 finish and a Big 12 tourney title. That was the most frustrating loss Ive seen in probably a decade when you factor the stakes and how poorly they played against average competition. TCU was getting run out of the gym and hadnt beat a ranked road team since 1998. Those are just games you don't lose at home, let alone get run out of the gym.

I'll still watch and follow closely but I would be lying if i said my enthusiasm for the rest of the season didnt take a huge hit.

Losing sucks, doesn't matter to who or by how much. But I think some fans are quick to forget how honestly lucky our teams were specifically in Fred's last couple years in a hell of a lot of games.

Starting with the 2013-14 season here are the games that we pulled out late, many times being down 10+.

2013-14:
  • at BYU won by 2
  • vs UNI down most of the game came back to win in OT
  • rally late to beat Iowa by 3
  • Naz comes up clutch in 3OT game in Stillwater
  • Naz again with three at buzzer in Ames to get game to OT against OSU
  • We finished that year 11-7 in the league but incredibly close to 9-9 in league and 18-10 overall...and that was a Sweet Sixteen year!
2014-15:
  • block by Nader seals two pt win in Ames over OSU
  • 2 point win at WVU
  • held on late vs Texas by 3
  • Down 20+ to Oklahoma at home and win
  • We were 12-6 that year in league but again...very close to 9-9...
  • I believe by then end of the Big 12 Tourney, we had been down 10+ points in like our last ten games
  • ...this was the UAB year

Prohm has had some games he's coached where we got down and came back (Iowa in Ames comes to mind) but not nearly as many as Fred did. We had great teams with Fred, I loved those years. But man we were on the right side of a LOT of games. His best league wins in a season was 12 but every year we could have easily been .500.

We have six losses this year, two of which are clunkers. Iowa and TCU. Can't polish those turds but if you can't see that we have bounced back after losses in a very strong way, then you're always just going to be looking for bad things to happen. This team is still crazy good despite that TCU loss and can do a helluva lot of damage yet.

Sometimes, I think people need perspective. From losing my mom 3 years ago, to putting my favorite (and young, 4 year old) dog down due to kidney failure in September, the outcome of a basketball game just pales in comparison.

I can't agree more. I also think not living in Iowa makes those fans not have the same perspective maybe? When I lived in Iowa and saw all the news recaps and read the papers and were around ISU and Iowa fans every day I HATED losses and they would stick with me for days. After moving away and being gone for 15 years it's so different I can't explain it. I still have the same passion and get pissed but when we lose I also find myself being able to get over it very quickly.

This thread is kinda funny. It sucks losing at home, but this is mostly a random game in February. It will be forgotten in 2 weeks, much less 6 weeks when the tourney rolls around. The conference title implications were important, and getting thrashed in Hilton to a non-KU team stings, but I don't think a lot has changed. TCU isn't Penn State.

A win on Saturday, and we're all back to be being sky high and predicting a conference championship.

A win on Saturday puts us back in the picture, but we'd have to avoid further bad losses, which seems unlikely.

This team is not out of the conference race, it's just using past performance as a predictor of future behavior it's hard to see a scenario where they don't lose at least 2 more games this year, and 12-6 ain't winning the league.

Since you are clearly not an Iowa State fan....

After some time to reflect, I think it comes down to this for me: this team is good, and really fun at times, but not dominant or amazing. It's a top 25 team, but not a top 10 team. Which is what we were hoping was developing with Wigg and Lard coming back. But I think the chemistry & leadership just isn't quite there for that.

So yeah, not going to win the conference - its just not that kind of team. It hurts, because we started believing, even thought ISU was in the drivers seat. But they are still quite good, will go to the NCAA, and clearly have a chance to make some noise in the tournament - maybe a lot of noise depending on matchups and how well they play. And that's probably what most of us expected back in November.

The only thing that REALLY bothers me now, is losing at Hilton to someone that isn't Kansas. That's not a thing that should happen in a year with a good team.

Come on. No reasonabls person thought we’d be top 10 before the season.

Before saturday, TCU got blasted twice on the road (Tech by 19 and Baylor by 26) and beat OSU at home by 2. They were a team that was absolutely mailing it in.

That 2 point win may have breathed new life into them.

All's contagious.

They were ballin' Saturday.

You do remember the UAB game right?

That season had at least 4 other weird losses...S.C., at Tech, Baylor, and I'd say even at KSU.

A loss to a capable team desperate for a win while disapointing is not something that will dictate how the season plays out.

Really? After saying things like this just a month ago:

JFC as if this could get any worse, season is completley falling apart.

This was as about as bad of a loss as you can get

everyone knows we will have 7 losses by the end of the month.

Either you are dumb as a bag of hammers.......or just full of it. Doesn't matter which, that's some funny stuff.

Those 2 home losses will likely prevent us from winning the conference. We've had several seasons where we were really close to doing that in the past decade, and there's always 1 or 2 head scratching bad losses that separates us from KU at the end.
In some ways if a fan can't enjoy this season, I wonder what season they did enjoy. The Kane/Ejim year had 5 road conference losses vs. unranked teams plus a loss at AFH. That included the absolute shellacking at WVU. The following year it looked like ISU was in position to challenge for the reg. season title, then got beat @ a TTU team that was beyond horrible. Including the conf. tourney they were 3-16 in league play and largely not competitive. Maddening, head scratching losses happen. This team has the chance to be one of our best road teams in conference in almost 20 years. I love that.

On a somewhat related note, I saw a man wearing yoga pants (no shorts over them, not biker tights, etc.) at the recreation center where I work out last week. It was very un-nerving.

You can have my toxic masculinity when you pry it from my cold dead porn-watching, sports loving hands...

I don't know anyone who isn't enjoying this season. I think you can simultaneously enjoy this year and still be irritated that they likely won't reach their potential. I don't think those things are mutually exclusive.

Lmao, yeah, because people can't have different opinions after 8 games have been played.

But it proves you are an idiot. A month ago you thought the season was toast and then you decided that it was going to be amazing? And now you are pissed again?

You are determined to be ticked off about Iowa State. You thrive in being angry and upset. You are a troll of the worst kind.

I'm pretty over it. Championship teams don't play like that at home so now it's about winning as many as possible to get a good seed and make a run in the tourney. If the team plays good it can be really good but it can also be pretty bad, apparently.

You are so right Cydkar...Championship teams Win All their Home Games.....
