We definitely didn't close against KSU but we also were flat on defense similar to the TCU game. Against TCU, not only was the 3 pt shooting bad, but some of the shots weren't even close. They just really seemed tired or maybe their ranking went to their heads. Hard to say for certain.

That's really a key point, mentally and physically. And the more youngsters/freshmen the worse it gets.

KU seems to always have one head scratching loss each season, but they back it up with 1 or 2 wins on the road against the top of the conference. We made up for the KSU loss with a win in Lubbock, and have a chance to make up for the TCU loss Saturday. However, that also means we cant have anymore unexpected loses. In other words, we need to win out if we want to win the conference outright.

I think we pretty much have to win out to win the league. Certainly capable of that, but also capable of losing any single game as well.

At the end of the day, no one expected a conference title this year. It's just a little frustrating seeing how attainable it is, and that we have the talent to do it.

Yeah grand scheme of all things in life it's all pretty much meaningless (fan's perspective).

That said, ISU will need to get it's mojo back.

Realistically the wins will be tough to come by the rest of the way. The rest of the away games may be losses, two home games with Baylor and Tech probably a pick 'em even with ISU playing well.
Myabe, but Baylor is without Tristan Clark rest of season and Mason and McClure are dinged up. Of course, KSU gets them when they are out so they will be back at full strength for ISU.

Baylor's been better without Clark so that's not my concern also I can't recall the last time Baylor was a favorable matchup for ISU.

It seemed to me that the game was out of our hands halfway into the first half. So the loss wasn't a surprise to me.

Disappointing? Sure. Especially in a year when Kansas is down and the title is ripe for the picking. Now hoping for a deep run in March. :)

-1,000 dude points. Tell me you weren't wearing stretchy pants?

On a somewhat related note, I saw a man wearing yoga pants (no shorts over them, not biker tights, etc.) at the recreation center where I work out last week. It was very un-nerving.

I hope no one takes game results in the same light as the truly important things in life. However, as fans (short for fanatics) and people who have significant time and financial investment in Cyclone Athletics, I don't see a big issue in people being upset by losses as long as they don't go personal on players. TV networks wouldn't pay billions for rights packages if fans weren't passionate.

I always look at a season as a building process. Hopefully a team is much better in November or March than September or December. If all goes well the payoff is a bowl game or NCAA Tournament bid.

Looking back at ISU's basketball season we have shown progress at different points. The development of the freshman in November to fill in for suspensions/injuries. Then by mid-January the return of Wigginton and Lard took us to another level. The emergence of THT as a Niang type offensive player. What I am looking for is that next step up. Is it something we accomplish as a team (better defense) or a coaching decision (zone defense, press or a player combination Lard/Jacobson) or do certain players step up?

I think our upside is high, but we need to figure out how to grind out and win games when guys like Wigginton, Horton-Tucker or Babb are having an off shooting nights. It also seems like Halliburton has hit a bit of a freshman wall- can he work through that and be the aggressive offensive player he was early in the season?

I think as fans, this time of year we can get caught up in tournament seeding or winning a conference championship vs. winning the next game. I am sure it can be tough on coaching staff to keep players focused as well, because the end goal is in sight.

Sort of. I was wearing those comfort-fit jeans. They're sort of stretchy like women's jeans. Let me tell you. Women have had this jean thing right for years. Sure, they've had to go through labor, but they've been allowed to wear stretchy jeans for years and never shared this information with us.

I think people are missing the point of my OP, which is fine, but in no way was I implying these games are even remotely on par with family or friends or something else. My point is, even in the context of just the basketball program itself, this is still a great season and should be celebrated and I don't want these two losses, despite how much of a bummer they are, to change people's perception on the season itself.
So you're looking for reasonableness? Have you been on the basketball boards after a loss?

I think something most of us should fight against is enjoying the wins as much as we hate the losses. How many times on here have I read someone telling FANS to move on from a big win. How ******* stupid is that? But we’ll spend a week being miserable now.

Right now the ONLY game I want back was the first KSU game... If you're more than just an ISU basketball fan, scan the scores each and every night for these VERY common rarities. Great teams stumble, bad teams get hot, shots fall, guys are hitting walls... Every team in the nation has suffered lulls and ruts this season, last season and for every season to come.

I try to take the long-view. This loss disgusted me, but I love everything about this team, coaching staff, program and fan-base.

This thread is kinda funny. It sucks losing at home, but this is mostly a random game in February. It will be forgotten in 2 weeks, much less 6 weeks when the tourney rolls around. The conference title implications were important, and getting thrashed in Hilton to a non-KU team stings, but I don't think a lot has changed. TCU isn't Penn State.

A win on Saturday, and we're all back to be being sky high and predicting a conference championship.

After some time to reflect, I think it comes down to this for me: this team is good, and really fun at times, but not dominant or amazing. It's a top 25 team, but not a top 10 team. Which is what we were hoping was developing with Wigg and Lard coming back. But I think the chemistry & leadership just isn't quite there for that.

So yeah, not going to win the conference - its just not that kind of team. It hurts, because we started believing, even thought ISU was in the drivers seat. But they are still quite good, will go to the NCAA, and clearly have a chance to make some noise in the tournament - maybe a lot of noise depending on matchups and how well they play. And that's probably what most of us expected back in November.

The only thing that REALLY bothers me now, is losing at Hilton to someone that isn't Kansas. That's not a thing that should happen in a year with a good team.

I'm disappointed by loses, but by the time the post game call in show is over I've moved on. It has no direct bearing on my life and I am not letting something I can't control ruin a day for me.

A tornado through my home would ruin my day.

This team can peak for the NCAA tournament and we won't be playing teams that know us inside and out. Could be a blast.

Or could be a nut punch.
