Apparently you're one of the people who believes that quick turnarounds are easy. Arizona had nothing when Stoops got there.

In 2005 he beat #7. UCLA. In '06 #8 California. In '07 #2 Oregon. This year, he only lost to highly touted USC by a 17-10 score.

Most people have complained for years that McCarney and Chizik couldn't beat ranked teams. Stoops does that.

He's gone from 3-8 (twice) to 6-6, down to 5-7, then up to 7-5. Considering that Arizona is historically the "little brother" to ASU in football, and off in the middle of the desert (as opposed to in the Phoenix metro), I think he's done a good job. After all, UA hadn't had a winning season since 1998, so it's not as if he inherited much talent. He's built a program, the way it's supposed to be built.

In 2005 he beat #7. UCLA.- But was 3-8 overall
In '06 #8 California 6-6 overall
In '07 #2 Oregon 5-7 overall

Gets them up for the big game but fails for the teams inbetween...Didnt we have a coach like that?

My beef with Mike Stoops isn't even about his coaching, the guy is a jackass.... I can't tell who my source is, but it wouldn't take a whole lot of research to find out...

But you guys aren't remembering that Brian Kelly WAS offered the job and only didn't come here because of the pending change at MSU. That wasn't a smokescreen, he was the number 1 guy all along and it only feel apart very late.

I offer two more words...Rob Jeter.

No, we did not have a coach that could beat highly ranked teams while buildinbg a program. We did, however, have a coach who could win the big "rivalry" game when the other team was down...and at the apex of his own tenure.

Perhaps Pollard thinks, "I went with a character guy last time and it flopped, lets go the other way...". :wideeyed:

Does anyone else think its kind of strange that Stoops would be negotiating a contract when Arizona has a bowl game on Saturday?

I honestly don't know Arizona's history when it comes to football but I would assume very few others do either. It is anything but a football tradition - it's a basketball school and likely will be for the near future.

Arizona not that far back actually did used to have a decent football team. I think their D was known as the "desert swarm" or something stupid like that.

That being said... I will tender my resignation as a Clone fan if Stoops is the hire. Don't give me a batch of crap for saying that either. I don't want another Chizdick at the helm at ISU and as far as I am concerned Stoops is just that. I don't think I can handle another 2 to 5 years of ISU getting their brains beat in.

Stoops is NOT the answer.

Or Jay Norvell.

My point is, the night before the press conference to announce ISU's last two major coaching hires, almost every media outlet in Iowa, and most message boards were reporting a name that was going to be named the head coach (Rob Jeter for BB and Brian Kelly for FB), and the next morning everyone woke up and found out they were wrong. With Pollard, no one can be 100% sure until after the press conference to announce the new coach is over!

Fulmer or Stoops are improvements as I see it.... We need someone that will stay for at least 5-6 years, Stoops will take the first big job available, Fulmer may settle down....time will tell, JP better get this one right
