If we hire this guy I’m going to get 100% behind him. That includes renewing my season tickets, increasing my National Cyclone Club donation, showing up for each game, and cheering until I’m hoarse but as of right now I’m rooting for a different candidate (anybody but Stoops).

JP is using MT to set up his smokescreen just the way he did last time. He has a booster feeding incorrect information and having MT passing it on to the listening audience.

I hope so but if it isn't a smoke screen we could do a lot worse than Stoops.

I really hope this is not true. If it is I think we know then that JP's top priority is not necessarily hiring a top flight coach but rather one with a big name.

Mike Stoops at AZ:

2004 Arizona 3–8 2–6 T–8th
2005 Arizona 3–8 2–6 8th
2006 Arizona 6–6 4–5 T–5th
2007 Arizona 5–7 4–5 6th
2008 Arizona 7–5 5–4 5th
Arizona: 23–33 16–25
Total: 23–33

Oh, and in '07, AZ lost a home game to New Mexico after a unsportsmanlike penalty on Stoops for his sideline behavior led to the winning TD.

From what I have heard about Mike Stoops (from a source inside the AZ AD) I would seriously consider NOT getting tickets next year if he is our coach...

My gut feeling is that it's not Stoops - but he is the name of the hour among everybody thats talking so it's hard to say either way. I would certainly support him but I think there are several better candidates that I would think would have interest in the job. It could be that he's the best option out of those that are listening, but only time will tell.

Mike Stoops is 23-33 in 5 seasons at Arizona. 16-25 in the Pac 10.

His only winning season is this year, at 7-5 and 5-4.

We need a WINNER, not an ugly little sister.

Apparently you're one of the people who believes that quick turnarounds are easy. Arizona had nothing when Stoops got there.

WHO? please inform
In 2005 he beat #7. UCLA. In '06 #8 California. In '07 #2 Oregon. This year, he only lost to highly touted USC by a 17-10 score.

Most people have complained for years that McCarney and Chizik couldn't beat ranked teams. Stoops does that.

He's gone from 3-8 (twice) to 6-6, down to 5-7, then up to 7-5. Considering that Arizona is historically the "little brother" to ASU in football, and off in the middle of the desert (as opposed to in the Phoenix metro), I think he's done a good job. After all, UA hadn't had a winning season since 1998, so it's not as if he inherited much talent. He's built a program, the way it's supposed to be built.

Arizona was very close to being a 9 win team this year. They lost to Stanford by only 1 and to Oregon State by only 2.

Two words that keep me confident that it is not Stoops...Brian Kelly

What good would it do to drop your season tickets? Whether everyone likes the hire or not we all have to support him.

Another thing to remember - it's likely NOT Stoops - here is why...

In both coaching searches, it was believed by many (and actually reported by some) that we'd have a different MBB and FB coach than we ended up with.

Almost a guarantee that the first guy announced/rumored to be hired is NOT going to be it. ;)

I'm not saying that Stoops is the perfect candidate, just that I don't think he's as bad as some people are making him out to be.

Just felt like piquing our curiousity? C'mon, give!

But you guys aren't remembering that Brian Kelly WAS offered the job and only didn't come here because of the pending change at MSU. That wasn't a smokescreen, he was the number 1 guy all along and it only feel apart very late.
