Didn't Pollard cancel all bonuses this year, plus a salary rollbck?
I thought the same thing. I also thought I read somewhere Campbell absorbed most if not all of the cuts the FB program had to make out of their budget for salaries.

Bringing a Lombardi Trophy to Cleveland would essentially make him God of Ohio. That’s his dream job. Campbell now probably regards anything collegiate to be a lateral move.

Not all fans. I look at it like this. All things come to an end. Nothing you or I can do about it.

Would you rather have this era of ISU football come to an end because our coach got poached or because our coach got fired? To try yet again to find that coach who will put us on the map, or to look for the coach who will keep the success going?

Easy choice for me, and that’s no defense mechanism.
But there aren't just two choices. Feast or famine in our scary world though we're almost past the national perception.

I don’t know how true that is. He’s not an idiot. He knows the NFL and College games are not apples to apples. He appears to care deeply about helping young men become better people. That’s something that’s not going to be the same at all at the Pro level. He may not care enough and will go pro and take on the new challenge. But what he says and what we know about how much he cares about college kids at least is a factor that would lead him to stay if he does.

I agree. It's a factor. And he's said these words dozens and dozens of times that I've heard (and I don't do coach-speak very patiently so often don't listen to interviews). It just seems very important to him and who he is and wants to be.

Cleveland isn't going to be searching for a coach any time soon. I would think Ryan Day might be the front runner if that position came open.

True but there is also the coping mechanism that people use saying if our coach gets poached then the program is in a great place, momentum, etc. Reality is a coach stands on his own, and the impact of previous coaches is short-term and really small. Blue blood programs tank in two years with the wrong coach.
I like Pollards relay analogy in giving credit to Mac, Chiz and Rhoads to get to this point, but that’s a 25 year relay, and after 20 years the success of the program was not really different from 1995. While I agree with the idea that these previous coaches all played an important role, there were also massive changes in the CFB world that enabled this, most notably every P5 school making big money and getting on National TV.

Wow, I read some posts on the Texas board about Campbell and Meyer and others, you want to talk about not only a clueless fanbase, but also a delusional one. Those guys are something else. I mean they are almost at the point of believing they can raise Bear Bryant from the dead and have him beg to be the Texas coach.
Some of the hot takes:
Campbell has lost games so we dont want him
Campbell isnt good enough, hasnt done enough, isnt sexy enough. just because he can win in the Big 12 isnt good enough. So what if he can win at ISU. and more.
Its Meyer or no one.
Cristobal was ok but he lost a game, so hes not good enough anymore.
the list is Meyer, Brian Kelly, Saban, Swinney, Shanahan, anyone not in this league is not good enough. And they actually think these people will drop everything and run to Texas.
Oooof what a fanbase.

This is why personally, if I am CMC I would never want to go to a place like this. One bad year and they turn on you. Your good years are not good enough unless you are the 1 and only team in the country winning the National championships. Anything other than that and its not good enough. Its a great goal, but to expect it and demand it is quite a different thing. CMC can build something great here, He can win here, and he can become a great here, without those insane expectations.

I hate defending anything Texas, but I think you’re misreading that thread. It’s more of a “if you could have any one” thread. Not a realistic list. The person that suggested Kyle Shannahan, for example, got immediately shot down by multiple posters. Then, in defending his through of it being a dream list, he then stated Saban and Swinney.

There was more than that, I do realize they shot down Shannahan, but they were pretty delusional about the rest. I mean their takes on some of the coaches were way off. And Most said its Meyer or no one. I realize some of them might be dream lists but some of these people actually think they can pull some of these guys, and some think they are somehow entitled to someone that has never lost a game and yet has coached only in a P5 because they cant handle an up and coming or none established winner. It has to be the top of the top cream of the crop, yet Im not sure who that is and who might take the job that meats those expectations. Meyer maybe, but Im not even sure he meets some of these guys lofty expectations.

I don’t think “it’s Urban or no one” is really out there. If they can’t pull in Urban, they’re getting really risky with a coaching change. Herman hasn’t been great, but it’s not like he’s losing 6-7 games a year. I think if you can’t get the sure thing with Urban, your chances for an upgrade from Herman of what they can realistically get outside of Urban is incredibly risky.
