LW def needs to return next year as his stock has drooped ...a lot. Mainly due to the injury and missing so much...But I doubt he returns...he will be 22 next season..maybe that doesn’t matter as much but his age is working against him. He will need to decide if he truly wants his name called on draft day then he will return, but if that doesn’t matter anymore he prob goes and will concede giving G league a shot.
Nixon is going to play a lot next year and I’m pretty sure Prohm brought him in with the thought to replace LW. Doesn’t mean can’t start TH, LW and PN with THT and Lard etc..
But we are also actively recruiting another 2019 guard so that tells me something.
I think there are three ways you get yourself drafted in the first round.
(1.) Just be that tippy-top "one and done" guy from the start.
Examples --
Zion Williamson, R.J. Barrett, Cam Reddish
(2.) Have a monstrously productive breakout year as a freshman or sophomore.
Examples --
Jarrett Culver, Ja Morant, De'Andre Hunter
(3.) Have a long and productive career where you might have a limited ceiling compared to some other guys, but you are skilled and we know you can produce.
Examples -- not a lot of them... maybe Aric Holman, Cameron Jordan?
I fear #1 and #2 have passed Wigginton by at this juncture. There comes a point, like it did for Monté, where you realize that raising your profile and developing your skill as an upperclassman, and finishing your degree, might ultimately mean more for you. You are already "old" in the eyes of the NBA, and you only have one shot to play your way onto an NBA roster from the D-League, so you need to be as ready as possible to do so when you do.
I appreciate his goals, but he has no easy path now -- he basically can either start at the bottom and play his way up (with whatever level of skill he has now) or try to come back and dominate, become the talk of college basketball, and parlay that into draft stock.
What would happen if he won B12 POTY as a junior, for instance?
I love the kid, but I think he is a SG stuck in a PG's body.
