Global warming taking a few weeks off. Still hopeful for that magical snowless winter. Maybe next year...

We came pretty close the winter of 16-17. Had a memory pop up on FB the other day of a photo I took of my charcoal grill outside and in the background was my snow blower in the garage that hadn't moved all winter. I got my grill out more times than the snow blower for sure. Whatever snow we got that winter I remember never having enough to get it out as it either melted right away or was so little I just shoveled it because the snow blower would have been overkill. Only time I started it up all winter that year was to run the gas out of it in the spring.

Slight inconvenience but I've had hip/back/sciatica issues and just finally got back into running but over the holidays was running, and must have slipped on a spot of ice under snow a bit and did something in my calf muscle....still waiting for it to heal. I'm someone who needs exercise and likes it in the snow so just frustrating.

Right now I'm fine with this...makes the spring all much more enjoyable. Wish it were like this a month ago though.

Ya know how graduating high school seniors aren't required to make up for snow days? Didn't have a single one my senior year. I think we may have had a blizzard or two, but they occurred on weekends or holidays.

There are many things I hate about winter. However, there are few things that infuriate me more than clipping along shoveling my drive and hitting a crack in the cement and stopping my shovel and walking directly into it at a force that feels similar to getting punched by chuck Norris in the stomach.

I was instructed in 1959 by my dad to always have your shovel offset from your stomach so you didn't get a gut punch. Don't dad's teach their kids the art of shoveling anymore?

Also taught me the slow broom so as to not generate clouds of dust in the garage. Have never quite mastered that one.

Snow boots - there's no way to not look like a jackass in them with work pants. Do you leave your pants out and get them sloppy and wet? Or tuck them in and look like your mommy dressed you?

Back in the day, when people dressed up for white collar work, I'd be wearing dress wool pants and sport coat. Would sloush in from parking lot with rubbers on to protect nice dress shoes and pants rolled up to keep salt and stuff off them (same as rainy days). Would sometimes notice much later at work that I still had the pants rolled up like some sort of geek/nerd.

Spent nearly $200 getting the carb tuned up and electric starter replaced on my snowblower last month only to have it blow a gasket and seize the engine this morning.

That sucks!! I have a single stage and a two stage (for the end of the driveway after the plow goes by. Neither would start. Had them both running last fall. New plug in one. New carb on the other. Needless to say both were out of fuel. I had not fuel mix for the single stage and the two stage I had to go out and dig out the gas can in our back shed.

Yikes! I probably need to bite the bullet and take mine in for a tune-up sometime. Carb probably needs cleaned or something, it starts right up but runs a little rough sometimes if I don't have the throttle or choke set just right. Bought it in 2004 so made it almost 15 years without ever being serviced which is a pretty good streak.
Put some Seafoam in the tank and change the spark plug. It would probably get you buy for another 10-15.

My third stall is all woodworking tools. The 2nd stall is usually project in various state of completion and kids stuff. That leaves one stall to park in. I’m about the only one in my neighborhood who parks in the driveway. My neighbors probably disapprove.

Neighbor around me has a 5 car garage and still has two or three parked in the drive most of the time. You are correct to assume your neighbors disapprove. Clean out that garage you savage!

Asking the significant other for help clearing the driveway while I snowblow, she comes out, does a few steps then calls it good good while I still have 40 minutes of work left.

My all time favorite has to be Facebook friends who don't believe in climate change post at the first sign of temps staying around zero for a few days.

Yeah, because temperatures in central Iowa for 3 days in a row is a great indicator of long term climate patterns across the entire globe.

4 seasons are completely overrated

Especially when the worst season lasts 5 goddam months where I'm stuck in the house.

I gotta get out of here. Move someplace warm again

You can have 4 seasons without it being as awful as it can get in the midwest.

Some areas have 4 seasons, but generally don't have the bitter cold we get. They'll get snow, but it will melt off quicker. We kind of get the worst of both worlds here- bitterly cold winters along with hot and humid summers.

Agree with the OP. To add to the list:

-Getting kids bundled up to go anywhere....adds at least 10 minutes each trip
-Kids' coats brushing against dirty vehicles
-Garage floor is a mess
-Tracking in snow, slush, sand, dirt
-Interior of my vehicle is destroyed by kids putting their feet on everything

Things you hate about winter or kids? lol

The only thing that caught my attention so far in this thread is the keeping them wet above the boot thing.

Same. We had multiple early outs, but i had the last block off anyway and the early out just meant after school activities were cancelled. Was kind of ******.

This reminds me that I need to get a new bulb for my primer. Let's just say I figured out why it has taken so long to start my snowblower the first time each season for the last few years. I was so mad that I had missed it when I discovered the problem this year.
