Can someone tell me at the end of the game when there was the foul called on us when everyone was calling for the tie-up why that guy (Luther) went to the line? The chryon showed us at 6 fouls.

Called in the act of shooting. Not a good call.

So can we all agree that this gif is disturbing but in a good way?

When I lived in Indianapolis, I remember driving downtown on this scorching hot day and seeing a man casually walking down the street eating mayonnaise out of a jar with his bare hands.

I still think about that often.

We didn't finish that game well but I was encouraged by much of what I saw. The guys ran out of gas and the fact that there were zero bench points doesn't bode well for a schedule of 3 games in 3 days. But Walton was right - between blabbering on about RAGBRAI, the volcanic origins of the Hawaiian islands and the fact that they have to import 85% of their food in Hawaii - when he said that ISU was playing beautiful basketball in the first half.

The Clones were cutting, creating turnovers, attacking the basket and moving the ball. They had interchangeable parts. It bodes well for the rest of the year. I disagree with the post that NWB is not our best choice at point; I like him there and LW as a 2 / wing.

Fatigue and a lack of experience did us in against UA's energy in the last part of the game but these guys will be able to compete in the Big 12 with their full team. Prohm had them playing at a level beyond their raw talent for much of that game - that's an encouraging sign. And I did NOT expect Jacobson to be such an impact player.

Disappointing loss but encouraging to see them play like they did against MIzzou for much of the game.

I only watched the game on tape delay once I knew the result and think this is mostly right.

The one exception is that I didn't think they ran out of gas at the end at all. From down 10, every high major is going to make a run and we just weren't able to close it out. Inexperience yes, but we had a couple of really unlucky turnovers on a couple of plays really hurt us near the end. That, coupled with Arizona making a few ridiculous shots and us missing a number of wide open shots, did us in.

I’m shocked at how people are responding to my Babb take. He is just not good enough. Hard worker for sure and his brother is a legend but if we are depending on him at pg we are in serious serious trouble. Sentimental feelings don’t change that.
I’m shocked anyone would think this has anything to do with Chris Babb. Chris isn’t a legend, and it’s not about sentimental feelings. NWB is a solid pg (as well as the better Cyclone of the two).

The game got away from us last night, but that is more on Prohm than it is NWB.

So after we tied it at 63 with 1 minute left Arizona went on to make 8 free throws and scored exactly zero baskets from the field. But tell me again guys how the officiating was fair, especially on the Jacobsen and Shayok fouls at the end.

29-98 from 3 pt range isn’t great no matter how everyone wants to try and spin it. Team needs to attack the basket and I could do without the fade-away 3 point attempts. Hopefully they find a way to win today. They will need to protect the ball as Illinois is going to pressure relentlessly. They forced 22 turnovers last night against Gonzaga. Quick turnaround with a short bench will present a challenge for Coach Prohm. Need a win.

No must wins at this point in the season. Maybe YOU just need a win.

Because when you’re losing at the end of the game, you foul a lot to draw out the length of the game? You understand the fundamentals of basketball, right?

I understand your point but if Iowa State goes 0-3 in this tournament then you will need to beat Iowa and go at least 10-8 in the Big 12. Arizona, Illinois, SDSU and Xavier are all likely non-tournament teams (below 50 in Kenpom). It's possible to get to the NCAA tournament with 4 losses in the non-con but I would like to make that road a bit easier. Big 12 is unlikely to get 7 into the NCAA this year. I think we beat Illinois as we should.

With the pleasant surprises from the freshmen and transfers, I think 12-6 or better could be a possibility. Certainly don't want to go 0-3 though.

Yeah what sucks is at full strength this team is quite possibly not just an NCAA tourney team but one that could make a run.

With bad luck like injuries, and idiocy (if it's confirmed that the suspensions are post-summer) the ability to do so is lessened quite a bit.

Sadly even at Iowa, ISU will likely need to hit outside shots to open things up.

If we can make our early season look relatively decent (no bad losses), I think we'll get the benefit of the doubt due to our extremely short roster. Every win increases our margin for error though. I'm probably more confident of our tournament possibilities than I was before our first game simply because it's clear that there were no misses in our recruiting and transfers.
