First tough game for a lineup of new guys and guys that have never played together before. They showed a lot of fire and worked their butts off this game. Played a good team well to the end. It does take most Freshmen time to get into the swing of things, these guys are ahead of most. Get Wigginton, Lark and Solo back and this team could be dangerous come conference time.

We didn't finish that game well but I was encouraged by much of what I saw. The guys ran out of gas and the fact that there were zero bench points doesn't bode well for a schedule of 3 games in 3 days. But Walton was right - between blabbering on about RAGBRAI, the volcanic origins of the Hawaiian islands and the fact that they have to import 85% of their food in Hawaii - when he said that ISU was playing beautiful basketball in the first half.

The Clones were cutting, creating turnovers, attacking the basket and moving the ball. They had interchangeable parts. It bodes well for the rest of the year. I disagree with the post that NWB is not our best choice at point; I like him there and LW as a 2 / wing.

Fatigue and a lack of experience did us in against UA's energy in the last part of the game but these guys will be able to compete in the Big 12 with their full team. Prohm had them playing at a level beyond their raw talent for much of that game - that's an encouraging sign. And I did NOT expect Jacobson to be such an impact player.

Disappointing loss but encouraging to see them play like they did against MIzzou for much of the game.

I agree we got better shots. I still think, just as I did pre-season, that we are missing a shooter. T. Lewis has a couple more games to show us something but I'm not optimistic. Overall the starters played well and got tight down the stretch. Not exactly sure why everyone is fretting about calling timeouts as I think we struggle more out of timeouts rather than letting Nick get us in to a set. Need a win tomorrow.

Too early to tell on shooting, but on a night where they're not going down, and you're getting into the lane nearly at will, I think we'd do well to shoot less of them than we did. Still, we moved the ball and got a lot of wide open looks. Hard to pass those up.

I’m shocked at how people are responding to my Babb take. He is just not good enough. Hard worker for sure and his brother is a legend but if we are depending on him at pg we are in serious serious trouble. Sentimental feelings don’t change that.

Easily the best point guard we have (with all due respect to Haliburton, who is second). Wigginton is a great two. We haven't seen enough of him at point to make a call on how he has improved that part of his game yet.

Babb had 13 pts, 4 rebs, 4 assists, 4 steals and played really good defense. Did have 4 turnovers though. Last year, I think he averaged something like 12/7/7, which almost anyone would love to see out of that position.

NWB's ability to move laterally to stop his guy from driving is phenomenal. Walton was also right that he has a great left hand as well.

Hopefully they find a way to win today. They will need to protect the ball as Illinois is going to pressure relentlessly. They forced 22 turnovers last night against Gonzaga. Quick turnaround with a short bench will present a challenge for Coach Prohm. Need a win.

I suppose it depends on whether that shooting was near normal or not. We were 25-74 for 33.8% coming in. Not great, but if we had maintained that average last night, we double the number of 3's we made. And they weren't bad threes for the most part.

I do agree that we are very talented in taking it into the paint, so I don't want us to fall in love with the three point shot, but you do need to take them and make a reasonable percentage to spread the defense out and allow those driving lanes.

Poor shooting 3 point teams will occasionally have really poor shooting nights. This should not be shocking to anyone. We play excellent defense and rebounded for the majority of the night. But once again are we getting good looks on offense in “winning time” (last five minutes of the game)? It just gets old.

I'll add that Lewis is 1-10 and Griffin is 1-12. Rest of the team is 27-76 for 35.5%. So if those guys find their range (or stop shooting), I think we shoot a respectable percentage from distance (and those guys will probably not be getting a ton of minutes once we're back to a full roster).

Apparently the ref imagined that their guy was intending to go up for a shot (even though he was bent over and tied up with our player).
