The prudent strategy is to expand the conference. And when the Conference expands then the GOR is extended. Your strategy is doomsday for Iowa State. How long have you been a Hawkeye fan?

Calling me that is rude and I'll accept your apology when it's offered.

Call me when OU signs an extension of the GOR because of Cincinnati. When the league is projected to fall dramatically behind in revenue. So much so that even the great Bearcats can't make up the difference.

It's not doomsday for ISU. I still say it's a very marketable program with a soft landing spot. So that dog don't hunt

The Big Ten just makes too much sense for where ISU should land if and when the Big 12 disbands. The closest D1 school to the University of Minnesota? It's not Wisconsin or Iowa...it's Iowa State. Within a 6 or so hour drive alone from Ames, we would have Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Illinois and Northwestern. Currently only KU and KSU are that close.

Am serious about Tulane. Top flight academics. A major market. A place people would want to visit. Contiguous. Solid in many Olympic sports. See Vanderbilt, Northwestern, Wake.

So you like Tulane but can't see any way Memphis is in the conversation?

Also, the AAU membership is often overlooked when it comes to ISU and the B1G. Of the current Big 12, only ISU, KU, and UT are AAU members. KU would probably the top target for their basketball history, and proximity to the B1G, but they have the baggage of being tied to KSU.

Also, for all those saying Iowa would not back ISU for the B1G: ISU falling out of the P5 would hurt the incoming revenue for the state universities, and would impact the amount of money being distributed between the three. ISU in the B1G is better for Iowa, than ISU in the MAC.

Way too much logic going on here for Iowa to understand

As much as it would be ideal for us to join the B1G, it's unrealistic to think it's an option. They are going to expand their reach not overlap. My guess is they will offer BC to secure all of the NE and offer either UVA or UNC to complete the move to 16. We don't have many options if we go to 4-16.

If BC and UVA/UNC were to go to the B1G, the ACC would implode. That would leave the SEC and Big 12 to fight for the remaining pieces. Though that leaves the PAC in a rough situation.

Let's be honest, while we all want big names for our conference to be a big deal....secretly us cyclones want some easy football wins in a split division.

If the Big 12 collapses, the Big Ten is hands down the best scenario, but there's no way Iowa is backing ISU's membership. We all got a sneak peek of what the ISU to the Big Ten movement looked like in 2010-2011. Iowa gave ISU no support in conference realignment. Many were actively lobbying against ISU's inclusion.

Because it's not in Iowa's best interest for ISU to be in the Big Ten. It's not in the Big Ten's interest for ISU to be in the Big Ten. It would be in Iowa's best interest if ISU were relegated to the MAC or AAC, a non-P5 conference, so Iowa could assume their "rightful" place as the only major athletics program in the state.

Iowa's a small state with a limited talent pool. Smaller than Minnesota, which has only one P5 university. Smaller than Wisconsin, which has only one P5 university. Iowa views ISU as an also-ran, a hindrance that spoils the Hawk's chances of competing for championships each year by diluting the talent the Hawkeye recruit and donations to their athletic department in the state. Iowa doesn't want ISU to compete in the P5, they want ISU to go away. There's no way the Hawks support ISU's membership in the Big Ten.

Or, the Pac would poach 4 from the Big 12, the SEC would add Clemson and FSU and we would potentially be screwed. What would be left is what remains of the ACC (Pitt, GT, Wake, etc) and what is left of the Big 12 plus the outliers to patch a 4th 16 team conference. I don't want to go there.

TV Contracts are based on so much per team. Adding an additional member does not lower the per team share. The league needs to work on a Conference Network in order to increase revenue. Cincinatti helps in that regard. It is a decent TV market.

The options Iowa State had when the Big 12 almost disbanded were not that great. Soft Landing Spot and Very Marketable?? BS.

KnappShack says we are very marketable and would have a soft landing spot. :swoon: He probably thinks Iowa State can go Independent and get a national TV contract like Notre Dame because Iowa State has alumni living all over the United States.
