I don't know anything about how message boards are run. But, can or will this thread be deleted? It seems like enough people would like to see it go away. please?

A little silly to take a 32-5 team which very very few of even the elite teams get to....and make that OUR baseline to compare the term "as strong as the program was". Are we a program that's going to happen to have 2 all Americans on it at the same time usually? No. Tinsley and Fizer being there was kind of a perfect storm of events and circumstances that we obviously benefitted from....but wàsnt the norm, and really hasn't been since.

So be somewhat realistic. I would say despite not having those types of players yet.....the consistency is building to where I feel like every year we should make the tournament. From there we have to work on progressing in the tournament.....it's a process.

If you want to solely compare it to two of our glory years.....then sure...it's not as good. In most programs it would be. If you view it in the bigger picture of where the program typically is....yes...we are in a good spot as a program and we only seem to be doing better.

I agree with you on most of this, and you seem to be agreeing with what my point was. Someone made a silly and clearly incorrect comment that Iowa State is currently "as strong as it ever was" and that simply isn't close to true.

This of course doesn't mean in any way it isn't a good program or a growing program, but this is a message board and not many people can discuss simple things like this without going off the deep end.

You also seem to agree that a much better description of Iowa State right now is they are becoming more consistent in making the tourney than before. I agree with that, but it certainly isn't as strong as it has ever been, but has the chance to get there.

I haven't posted in while since I've been waiting to get to my laptop to change my avatar.

After reading about handlers I couldn't help but think about this...

THE OLD WOMAN AND THE SNAKE: A PARABLE
An old woman was walking down the road when she saw a gang of thugs beating a poisonous snake. She rescued the snake and carried it back to her home, where she nursed it back to health. They became friends and lived together for many months. One day they were going into town, and the old woman picked him up and the snake bit her. Repeatedly. "O God," she screamed, "I am dying! Why? I was your friend. I saved your life! I trusted you! Why did you bite me?"
The snake looked up at her and said, "Lady, you knew I was a snake when you first picked me up."

I'll also add this is my last RV post. I lost the excitement about the guy anyway somewhere around 12-0 when I realized we were fine either way.

I'm guessing the odds that I even remember his name 3 years from now are well under 50%.

Best of luck to him though. No hard feelings. He made what he felt is the best decision.

Let's get back to talking about Cyclones now.

Do you have a team Texas Alamo? Maybe we can discuss the strength of your program versus the strength of our program. Because I'm fairly that if you live in that dusty **** hole of a state that are program is superior to any program in Texas.

I am more than happy to discuss the strength of the Texas program vs. the strength of Iowa State. We could look over a 10 year period or simply since Rick Barnes has been here if that works.

- Made the NCAA Tourney 15 out of the last 16 years under Barnes
- (1) Final Four, (2) Elite 8's and (2) Sweet 16's, (3) Big XII Championsips
- Won 20+ games 14 out of 16 years under Barnes
- Rick Barnes has more conference championships (3) than Iowa State does (2) since 1948.

No offense to Iowa State, but Rick Barnes has as many NCAA Tournament appearances at Texas as Iowa State does in their entire history.

Is it as "strong" ...no....if the only comparison is to a 32 win team. By that gauge almost every team will fall short. Do I think it's being built to be more consistent...yes.

I guess as a Texas fan I'm not sure what your doing here? Not to offend....but there's no scenario I'm joining a Texas MB unless I'm just straight trolling.

And piggybacking off your post on Texas merits....as good as the program has been I think the common feeling amongst fans outside of Austin is as good as the program has been....the extraordinary talent level he has had..should have resulted in much better performances and tourney runs. Not a knock per se....but a "done less with more" vibe.

So UNLV Dave Rice says they will win the NCAA next year. Calipari and Self barely does it with freshman. Not Dave Rice. If RV wanted a NCAA, he would have picked another school. No way will UNLV be champions next year. For one they will play Arizona and then visit Phog Allen. It will not happen. Just a big smoke screen for the $$$$.:twitcy:

I'm not trolling at all. I joined the board before the Texas game to talk about that game and have always had an interest in Iowa State on some level.

For whatever reason, most on this board seem to not know the actual definition of trolling. I am not posting anything inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic.

Maybe it's the same national championship Iowa lost in last season.

I talked to some more people tonight and they told me Vaughn silently committed to come play at Iowa State after the Michigan game. Makes a little more sense why the staff went all in on him and appeared to be backing off other recruits. They way it all went down in the end sounded extremely shady. It makes me feel even worse for the coaching staff.

This is depressing... Not sure if you can share more on what you heard.. But would be great to hear some more about Vaughn's visit here and what allegedly happened. Thanks for any insight... Even if it's just a rumor.

I made sure to post it because someone made the silly comment that Iowa State was as strong as ever, and as you have clearly agreed with, that simply isn't true. I was pretty much just pointing out a fact and it was borderline sad that a few people (not you) acted as if that was some crazy thing to point out.

There is no doubt that Hoiberg has turned the program around after McDermott drove it into the ground and it is getting stronger every year, but there is a long way to go before they match what they did previously. They are looking more consistent, but they need multiple other pieces to make that jump into a Top 2 seed level.

Even though Iowa State has been ranked in and near the Top 10, it is pretty clear they aren't quite that good yet, but they are having a nice season. Until Hoiberg can get a team that is a legitimate threat on the road, they won't make a serious run. So far that has been the biggest weakness. Iowa State is mediocre to downright awful on the road.
