Steps to doomsday:

1) ND enters bigXII in all but football

2) Conference feels they are stable for a while

3) Texas sees that ND is doing just fine and conference used to a member without football

4) Texas goes indy in football

5) Conference now has little choice but to let Texas keep their other sports in bigXII

6) OU says f-this and PAC bound.

DON'T DO ND WITHOUT FOOTBALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The PAC-12 already turned down Oklahoma without Texas and Texas said they don't want to go independent in football because they want a regional conference, but let's not let what's happened cloud your ******** doomsday scenario.

Um, a Big XII with Texas and OU is more stable than the Big East could imagine.

Texas would love the scenario of independence. Imaging the longhorn network going nationwide and they do not need to share the money with anyone. Once independence happens for football with Texas and they can keep the Big 12 for olympic sports they would get over $40 million for the LHN and the Big 12 would be the Big East. No thanks.

I know, I know... it's Twitter. But it's all over tonight that Mizzou could leave as early as tomorrow, and WV could be added as soon as Friday.

What makes you think that the Big 12 would allow Texas to house their other sports in the Big 12 if they ****ed over the rest of the conference like that?

Lack of a major conference for other sports is the major reason they haven't gone independent. I agree we don't want to set a precedent.

Doesn't matter, according to Pollard most of the conference wants 10 teams so that is what we will be stuck with. I think this is horrible for ISU, KSU, KU, TCU, Baylor and Tech. I assume they are all thinking about money, how they are currently playing (not historical I am talking to you KSU, Okie St, KU & Baylor) and that the Big 12 will be perfect going forward. As things stand now, ISU will more than likely be a doormat until some of these powers have coaches retire or ISU gets a few breaks to go their way.

Essentially ISU needs to go 3-0 in non con every year going forward in order to sniff a bowl game.
And you have to win 3 conference games. That looks tough. One win maybe.

Because....Notre Dame would be doing it.

You realize how stupid your argument sounds, right?

Mind showing me an example where a school was an all-sports member of a conference, went independent in football and the rest of their sports remained in that conference?

Mind showing me where all this realignment crap has happened before. My argument is sound, most people agree with what I am saying.

First of all, no, I don't think most people agree with you.

Secondly, conference realignment has been happening for a long time. The Pac 12 was the Pac 8 and the Pac 10 before. The Big Ten actually had 10 teams for a long time. The Big East is a very young football conference. The SEC had 10 teams for a very long time. Let's not act like before 2009 all the conferences are exactly the same as they had ever been.

I agree with twoj. Partial members don't add stability. They add an illusion of stability by adding a big name to the conference that is clearly not really committed to the conference.

No partial members. Disaster awaits with partial members.

If ND comes, it needs to be all or nothing.
Adding quality olympic sports to the Big 12 does nothing. All it does is give Texas a blueprint to going indy with football while keeping olympic sports in the Big 12. Not saying it would happen, but it certainly gives Texas another option, especially after the LHN gets up and running.
CrossCyed, I usually agree with your posts here, but this time we are going to have to agree to disagree.

The lack of prestige and $$$$$$$$$ is what doomed the big east. Who knows what would've happened if they had accept ed that big time tv contract last year

And Texas has ALWAYS been as honest as everyone else. #2, OU got turned down because 1) they still had a home and 2) that let them be able to drag their feet long enough to try to get the best deal wherever they went and get who they wanted with them. If **** ever really hit the fan, OU will be JUST FINE...probably in the PAC but maybe not with OSU. They just weren't forced into that call at this time. But, go ahead and trust everything Texas wants you to believe.

I find it interesting that WVU is moving to top of the pile for the tigger replacement. So FOX is possibly making the call... If so, who are they raiding for network? Comcast/NBC? ESPN?

If MoMan goes, I would want Louisville and WVU. It does not sound like BYU is ready to go to competitive football again so I would check out Rutgers, being an AAU school. That would take one more off the Big Ten list of AAU schools so as to put the squeeze on them. It would also make it more difficult for ACC to go to 16. The Pac Ten might never want BYU. I would take the ND other sports.

We think this now needs to be played like a chess match.

What can we do to screw up the future plans of the other expansive conferences?

Take a don't mess with Texas, don't mess with the Big 12 attitude.

We need to become the new sharks in the tank. Having Rutgers, WVU, and ND woiuld help our bball recruiting back East. Maybe Fred can build a bball dynasty, since it looks like we are a long ways from making it big in football.
