I was in freshman english class with Fred during our freshman year at ISU...fall 1991. Sat beside him on many mornings, and ended up writing a paper about him...everyone had to write a paper about the person sitting at the same table when the project was given, and we were sitting together that day...and I STILL have that paper today.
On the friday before Thanksgiving break, I showed up to english class at 9am, not looking so good. Fred was at the table in front of me. We had decided the night before, after already starting to pre-holiday "live it up," to do the century club. Wow was that a mistake! Our teacher asked me if I was ok, and when I told her what we did the night before, she could only muster the "oh my god" look and was speechless...when she walked away, Fred turned around with a huge smile and said, something to the tune of "that's the first time we have seen her speechless this semester!"
Was a great guy in class, was very quiet, and would always say hi on campus if we ran into each other.
