I wouldn't say all of Ne Ia is like Dubuque. I live up near Decorah/Cresco and rarely ever get crap from Hawk fans or deal with them being obnoxious about things. I've actually found Iowa fans fairly tolerable up here. They are definitely the majority, but it's really not that bad.

i think the fact that it's a pretty remote area, especially in terms of having much truly local media kind of helps.

hoosman I agree with you on Burlington; the trailer park element there thinks that turkey vulture logo qualifies as formal attire. I grew up there and remember when we beat Nebraska in "76" in football which was a footnote on page 4; while the hoks got clobbered like 56-7 and it was all over the first 3 pages. The paper has gotten better as multiple ISU grads are on staff there now. unfortunately they also know what sells papers.
I'm curious what bar would not turn on the Cyclone game for you? I tend to frequent the Drake when I'm back in town; as the owners do frequently sport Cyclone gear:)

Can we just go with "Worst Place to Live in Iowa" when we talk about the Dirty B?

I've been heckled on the golf course, grocery store, the bar and everywhere in between in that town.

The place is full of angry people who love to do nothing more than ***** about everything, drink at all hours and (kinda) follow iowa sports

Over here in the Omaha /council bluffs area, it's a completely different animal, especially since Nebraska joined the big 10. For the most part the Iowa state/Iowa fans get along well. It's more less the cyhawk fans vs husker fans now..

Living in Cedar Rapids for almost 2 years, I am very surprised to see so many ISU alum/fans. There are more Iowa fans but not as big as a ratio as you think. Maybe 60/40 in favor of Hawk fans. And yes, some parts of town smell like a sewer. The worst is ADM along highway 30.

Agreed with all of this. Cedar Rapids has more Iowa State fans than you would think for a major city (by Iowa terms) so close to UI. I think the amount of ISU alumni that make their way to Rockwell Collins really helps with this ratio. And ADM is the worst smell but it's pretty far out away from most of the city so it's not so bad.

Sioux City used to be pretty bad like 40% Huskers, 50% Hawkeyes, 10% ISU.

I'd say in recent years it's more like 25% Huskers, 50% Hawkeyes, 25% ISU. ISU has at least double the sports fan presence there they did when I was growing up in the 80s and 90s.

Let's have some input CF. Where are the worst places to live in our state as far as having to deal with the most obnoxious hawkeye fans. (Obvious answer, of course, is Iowa City, and maybe Cedar Rapids, but where else?

Iowa City actually isn't that bad. Most of these fans actually have a connection to the University. You get a little farther south and Yea you get some "hawkeye on my belly".

Cedar Falls.

However, any small town in Iowa will suffice. They are usually loaded with Wal-Mart hawkeye fans who wouldn't know how to read their degree from Iowa if they had one.

The smells have changed over the years. I think the meatpacking/slaughterhouse was been replaced by ADM.

1. Quaker Oats downtown (although crunchberry smell is actually kind of neat on those days)
2. ADM (world's largest and most horrible corn-boil)
3. Mt Trashmore (where's a good place for a landfill? right downtown next to the river? great idea!)
4. The glorious Cedar river (where fish go to die and rot on the shore)
5. The Eternal Flame of the Sewage Treatment Plant

My personal favorite is the sewage plant. They always say they don't give off any smells or emissions. Really? Then WTF is the methane that you burn off 24/7/365 for the last 30 years? And it does smell bad.

Penford smells terrible too.

Having lived in Iowa City and near Dubuque, I'm gonna have to go with chuckd here. While you're completely surrounded with Iowa fans here in the IC area...a good percentage of them actually went to college, so when they realize I'm an ISU fan because I'm an alum...most of them are cool about it.

The tavernhawks in the dubuque area don't get it. At my last job, there was a receptionist who was a huge tavernhawk...season tickets and the works. She was all excited about homecoming, and I finally said, "wait, you didn't even go to school there, what's big about homecoming?" Her response: Well, every week we go down and get drunk, but on homecoming, we go down and get REALLY drunk.

I have to agree as well. I grew up in Dubuque, graduated from ISU, and lived in the CR/Marion area for the last 20 years. CR/Marion area has plenty of ISU fans/alums from the major companies in the area. Dubuque has more manufacturing and is older, thus more Hawk and Wisc fans. It was very hard to find anything ISU around Dubuque when I visited from Ames or CR.

From SE Iowa, that area is just a Hawkeye ****-stain on the state of Iowa.

Cedar Rapids has the second largest ISU alumni base in the state and it's a pretty vocal group. It really isn't all that bad living there in regards to Hawkeyes.

The Quad Cities is far away the worst. It's not even close. And the Quad Cities still has more ISU alumni than Iowa.

My brother moved to Cedar Rapids about six years ago. Lives in a neighborhood of all Hawkeye fans. He knew because almost every yard had one of those Iowa decorative rocks. The first thing he did the day he moved in was to get his ISU flag out and set it up on his yard, about 15 yards from his house, maybe 10 yards from the street. It was pulled out of the ground and laying on the ground by the next morning. Two huge muddy footprints on the logo.

How small of a ***** do you have to have to do this to someone's property...oh, we're talking Hawkeyes.

I put one of the ISU yard signs in my lawn right after the Cedar Rapids tailgate tour stop. It was gone the next morning...
