I watched the Phoenix race on Sunday. Kinda going the F1 route in terms of different tire tyes, which I applaud them for doing as it made it a competive race. Regular harder yellow label tires and each team was given two full sets of the softer red label tires. It ended up being a great race. I'm not a big fan of the green, white checker endings. Whereas most of these types end up with "who was leading when the yellow came out?"

F1 this weekend!! Can't wait!!

I used to know the names of most of the NASCAR drivers. Now, I only know a handful and don't follow it anymore.
I was really into it 20 years ago. Now, the "best drivers in the world" can't finish a race under green, and the overtime is a joke. I quit watching.

As someone who loves and participates in racing I personally think NASCAR sucks.

My reasons are as follows:

1. The playoff format is dumb.
2. The stage format is dumb.
3. A majority of the drivers are rich kids who bought their way in and didn't earn it with their driving skills.
4. Personally not a fan of restrictor plates and trying to get the cars "equal". Just causes pack racing.
5. Most of the time there is a big wreck going to the checkers because everyone just rides around (see #4 above) and then tries to make a move with 5 laps to go and the race race ends under caution.

I’ve been trying to get back into NASCAR, but they have completely ruined the sport with the playoffs and stages. Takes all the strategy and talent it used to take to win. A lot of the guys racing in the cup series have no business racing at that level, but their grandpa owns the team so you get a ride(Ty Gibbs especially. Kid has no talent). Then you have the racist die hards who have to make everything about Bubba Wallace and keeping up with it makes it hard. They’re has definitely been some good racing with the real talent the last year that I’ve tried getting back into it, but then it comes to a stop with the stages or the “I can only win if I wreck people” and then you quickly lose interest.

If you're sick of the current NASCAR format, give IndyCar a shot. Some of the most competitive racing on the planet.

For me, it's mostly IndyCar and sprint cars these days. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy all motorsports, but those are my top 2.

Ty Gibbs certainly benefits from his last name. But saying he has no talent is very harsh imo.

The kids in the best equipment on one of the best teams. His teammate has won 3/4 races to start the season and you know grandpa is giving his grandson the best they have to offer, yet he consistently runs near then back and causes multiple accidents. I know he caused at least 3 wrecks Sunday. The kid has no talent.

Racing in an oval is just stupid.

"Who's leading?"
"That guy in the middle of that pack of cars. He's in first place."

For my money, some of the more linear races are more exciting. The DAKAR rally (original format, before it became too dangerous to continue in Africa) was in my opinion the coolest race ever known to man. Real life Mario Kart style with motorcycles, rally cars, trucks, etc all mixed in, environmental hazards, and a real test of endurance. Drivers and their navigators had to fix their own vehicles (spare tires, gas, etc). Checkpoints were literally stopping overnight in some towns on the way, etc. It wasn't perfect by any means and definitely did not get the coverage it deserved, but way more exciting to watch than a bunch of cars going side-by-side in circles.
