I think he deserves suspended or some sort of punishment. However, I think you guys want to fire people to quickly. He is an idiot and made a mistake. However, he could be very good at his job and just made one mistake.

He's a moron and probably needs to have his pay docked with a few days to think about it a home but I agree firing the guy seems like an over-reaction.

I knew nothing about the situation either but heard about it on the news tonight. This dude sounds like a grade A douche.

He DID have a point with the consolidated school thing. Hopefully that brash young lady has been appropriately put in her place. Me - I always try to attack the wheelchair bound since if I get in a pickle, I can usually run up hill or into the grass and elude my target.

What I'm trying to say here is I really want children. I just can't catch them running in those clown shoes.

One mistake that has tarnished the ISU basketball brand? The only thing these guys should do is coach basketball and be good ambassadors and supporters of womens athletics everywhere.

Unprofessional yes, but also uncalled for to screenshot DM's and send into a newspaper... sounds like a private argument to me. Much different than posting the above messages on twitter.

Pretty sure getting our butts handed to us over the last few years has had more impact in tarnishing the brand than anything. Guy is a womens coach correct? Yeah not exactly national news.

It is small town Iowa. Who knows what the dynamics are between the two families. It was stupid but he also thought he was doing it in private. People just don't seem to understand that everything they post on social media whether private or not can be instantly recorded.

Over the past ten years I have contributed about a thousand comments to this site. Knowing that any one of them could show up in an a tweet or be quoted on here at any time, I usually try to choose my words carefully.

Edit. Exactly 1000 posts. Didn't know that when I typed it.

I've been to a few high school basketball games lately, and it never ceases to amaze me the emotional investment people have in high school athletics. I mean, there are people that sit in the stands just berating refs. These are good, professional people from the community that just absolutely lose their ****. Same thing with this guy.

I just can't imagine not having the self control to say "it's just a game" before you scream at an official making 12 bucks an hour, or private message a kid calling him a pot-smoking fraud. Surely they have more important **** to get riled up about in their life. Maybe not though...

OT but your "professional people" comment reminded me of a story. Friend was officiating a game in a small Iowa town. Wasn't even his regular crew, he got called to sub. There was a guy in the top row by himself screaming f-bombs and everything else. At halftime he came down to where the refs were leaving the court and berated them some more. My friend spoke to the AD and asked him to have the fan removed. He responded, "I can't do that. He's our superintendent." Next day my friend's phone rings. It's the IHSAA. This upstanding superintendent with an impeccable reputation had reported to the IHSAA that one of them flipped him off. No evidence, no eyewitnesses. Suspended from post-season officiating for five years. All because he answered the call to sub on someone else's crew!

It really is astonishing. Just in my community, the biggest culprits of screaming and yelling at the refs are a doctor and a business owner. Something just switches in their brain.

I see it is "being handled internally". Ferentz style.

As long as he doesn't break the golden rule, disagreeing with Fennelly, he will be fine.
