Still my go-to when I don't feel like fancy beer.

For tailgating, Keystone Light. Kegs, Busch light.

Summer in Ames, whatever was on fire sale
.

I stayed in Ames for every summer. It was awesome. Fire up the grill, drink a bunch of beers. A party to find in the summer like on a random Wednesday night was great.

I can't say that I ever had any desire to drink "good" light beer - IE Coor's, Bud, Miller.

I went pretty much straight from "crappy" beer to craft and skipped that phase entirely. And when I want to drink beer, but not craft beer, I pretty much go straight to the cheap stuff - Busch Light, Old Mil, etc.

Good beer Schlitz...crappy beer Blatz...REALLY good beer Coors

Coors was referred to as "liquid gold" when I was in school. It was not distributed very far outside of Colorado, so you had to "import" (smuggle) it back to Washington. Kids would come back from ski trips with trunkloads of Coors, and sell it at enough profit to cover most of their ski trip expenses.

For me, I only drank beer in college if we were playing drinking games. If my goal was to get intoxicated, I was drinking liquor. Sailor Jerry. He's a bad man.

Some years ago Sailor Jerry redid their formula and it went from being the sweet vanilla nectar of the gods to being a so-so rum that is mostly just good for mixed drinks. I'm still mad.

Keystone Light was definitely the beer of choice when I was at ISU from 04-08. Hy-Vee would have sales pretty frequently on the 30 packs for $11 or $12.

Busch light was dirt cheap in the late 80s. For some reason they started marketing it as a mid premium beer. So it was red/white & blue or meister Brau longnecks. Each was 3.99 a case IIRC.

Or as we called Red/White and Puke!! Stuff was nasty.

Olde English 800. Two 40 ozs were less than $5.
When I was walking around, doing my paper route as a young lad, with my Walkman on, Olde English 800 used to have a fantastic jingle. I liked it better than any song on the radio at the time. "Olde English... 800... It is the power!"

Coors Light party ball, what a novel concept. Keystone, Busch Light, and other assorted crappy beers.
