Don't remember the year, but it was an ISU/OSU game...somewhere in the mid 2000s and one we lost by a sizeable margin. I prefer to say it was the 2007 ISU/UNI game where we set the attendance record.

Early 80s...don't remember the year. Donnie Duncan was coach, we played Bowling Green, and Crutchfield ran all over them.

My first football game for ISU was against Wyoming on September 7, 1996. I was eight years old. My grandmother took me, just us two, and she scalped tickets so we could sit close to the band. She was a trumpet player for Boone High School... back in the 40s... and I eventually spent six years with the same instrument in the CMB. All that stuff was great, but the rest of the game was rather inauspicious.

We were willing comfortably in the middle of the third quarter, and we left early, thinking we had it won. I was young and she was old, so don't give us a hard time for it. Then, of course, soon as we leave Wyoming starts coming back, eventually winning the game in overtime. This is the only real record of the game I could find:

So, yeah, not a good start to my Cyclone career, but, in fairness, I guess it prepared me to a few of the bad breaks over the years, punctuated by those rare moments of glory that make it all worth it in the end. But there's my first football game, which proved to be something of a microcosm of my career at Iowa State, for that matter.

My very first game of any type was 1994 or 1996 vs Nebraska. Really can't remember the year. It was cold. It was snowing. The stands were only half filled. Bandhour (sp?). Was our quarterback. We lost.

I'm still a fan..

I had to look it up. It was the first game of the 1976 season.

Won against Drake High, 58-14. This was the last season we DIDN'T play Iowa annually.

I was not really much of a football fan yet but my roommate freshman year was and encouraged me to get student season tickets.

RIP Knapp Hall...

1988 vs. UNI.

I was only 5 and mostly remember it particularly not because ISU barely won (for the 2nd year in a row), but because my Dad and Grandpa got in a verbal argument with some old UNI fans about how each program would look 20 years down the line.

Needless to say we've lost to UNI several times since then (and 19 years after that game...) but we're obviously still in a much better position than those old guys figured.

1991 vs Kstate. One of the coldest game I have atteneded in JTS. Sat right behind the KSU bench 50 yard line. ISU got rolled.

2005 Illinois State. A typical DMac game where we played down to the opponent and were not aggressive.

I can still remember walking to the stadium and hearing people sing "Don't know the words! Don't know the words! Don't know the words to this stupid ******* song!" And being super confused by it.

Its to bad they don't play that anymore. It was a nice tradition.

2005 - Illinois State

Struggled with the Redbirds, was not expecting the awesomeness that came the next week.

Sometime in the early 90's against Iowa. I was pretty young and don't remember a whole lot other than we lost by a lot.

Bandhauer would have made it 1996. By the way, Bandhauer's gotta be up there for smartest quarterback ever: Current Ph.D. Studentshttp://webcache.googleusercontent.c...hauer&cd=22&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us&client=safari

Good find. Thanks for helping me on the year.

I would love a weekly where are they now.

Mine was 1992 against Ohio. It rained non-stop but we had no trouble putting away the Bobcats. Ahh, the bad old days...Jim Walden, astroturf, yellow helmets, and celebrating if we got a tie.

The '92 Ohio game was my first as well. It was memorable on account of the long delay in the middle of the first half due to lightning. The teams were sent to the locker rooms, and the fans in the upper deck were moved down to the lower deck (Unfortunately, there was plenty of room to spare).

Awesome! Were you there the following week to see the tie against Nebraska?

Yep. I was standing just outside of the end zone when Ike caught the pass for us to go ahead. Nebraska had to tie US, not the other way around IIRC.

I told you guys I was an old f##t.

GO CYCLONES:yes:
