I'm glad you are honest about it, so many others live in denial....
He might be their best defensive guard….. but that’s hardly an endorsement. He’s a squak, I’d want nothing to do with him, he’s had too much losing culture and lazy work habits built into his DNA from that crappy environment.
TJ can and will find better!!

It’s not a bigger need than replacing Gilbert and Jones though. And it’s much cheaper to fill.

Not an either/or imo. We’ll add an older 3rd big that likely has very modest offensive stats, but can play defense at this level. And spend anything we have left on a guard that can score/shoot
ISU is bringing in highly rated freshman guards and wings. youth can play on the perimeter. in the post you need men. portal transfer, 2 years to play, grown ass men.

i dont doubt ISU targets a combo guard as well.

In the portal after the season. Dude is clearly not having fun playing for Iowa. He is their best player and can knock down the three. I think he has mailed it in at this point. His body language right now is terrible playing for Iowa. Should we go after him when he hits the portal?

Does he lift weights?

It's your fault.

Hilarious that he is "making it rain" with a couple of 50s and a fist full of 20s.

I'm going to guess that you put about any of our guys on a Fran team for three years and they are not going to exactly be dogs on defense or in the weightroom. Their culture is soft and focuses on what the hell ever it is, but it isn't getting strong and being tough. There are the David Montgomery types that don't bend to the culture, but make the culture bend to them, but those guys are extremely rare.

The kid came back and played as a freshman after a really bad leg injury as a Sr in HS. I think the kid has plenty of toughness that if he was in an ISU program with our staff and players that have lived this culture, he'd adjust.

I know people and coaches like to talk up value of things other than scoring, as they are important. But guys that can put the ball in the hoop are super valuable. When a guy shoots 45% from 3 at 6'5 or whatever he is with ability to handle the ball, unless he flops in a visit with the team and TJ, you consider him for sure.

I would guess the chances are low. He's a really nice basketball player, but I think there will likely be other players in the portal that fit into ISU's scheme better than Dix. I think he'd also have more opportunity at a Creighton or Butler.

Defense is 15% athletic ability and 85% desire. I'm pretty sure TJ and his coaches can make just about anyone solid on the defensive end, including Dix. That said, I would be very surprised if Dix ended up at ISU.

TJ has a proven track record of recruiting the right people from the portal. I trust he will do the same this offseason. There's not too many holes to fill for next year though. Good problem to have!

So here's what I've learned in this thread.

The size of Dix could be impressive depending upon the position but Dix may be too soft for us.

Also, Quaintance would give us a bouncy, yet firm addition to the front of our team if handled well.

I don’t have the sources that Travis Hines does, but I can confirm this kid is unhappy and we may have a chance.

that kid is a lottery pick projection in the 2026 draft. he will have high dollar suitors.

cant blame him for being unhappy playing for a hurley.

That would be a huge get. Judging by his HS offers, he'll be a very high $ prospect.
