Weight issues are root of Mangino's problems

Whitlock is funny. Maybe he can't get a job with a "real" newspaper because he is "too fat"?!

I get a kick out of people who blame someone's weight for their shortfalls, or say overweight people "lack discipline".

For example, I think Mangino would be short-tempered if he weighed 175 pounds. That's his personality.

As far as lacking discipline, I was overweight -- still am to some degree -- but I started a diet and exercise program a year ago. Now I feel great. I am now pretty disciplined as far as exercise and my health is concerned. But has that discipline carried over into other aspects of my life? Nooo. My desk at work is a mess and my checkbook is in the red.

Mark should investigate stomach bypass surgery. He does not have to be bigger than all of his players.

The weight does not help the situation and I have been told that KU has a full time Cardiac Specialist on the Staff that Travels with Mangino at all times. It is an extra cost that other schools just do not want to deal with. Winning cures all, remember Larry Eustachy??? His drinking was not a concern when we were winning, and everyone already knew it was going on................Sounds like a similar situation.

Your desk may still be a mess and your checkbook in the red but you sure sound happier and you look great! (I couldn't resist that-just joking:smile:)

You said "shortfalls". Thats funny 'cause Mangina is 5 by 5 and is physically incapable of "falling" in the traditional sense.

Should I be concerned with the last part of your response? Can you see me...or know who I am? You are freaking me out. :jimlad:

I find it hilarious when fat people call other people fat.

:biglaugh: This.

So we can attribute Whitlock being a horse's butt because he feels insecure about himself because he is fat, right? :jimlad:

Naw, like I stated in another post, he would be a horse's butt and have that air of superiority even if he weighed 200 pounds. A zebra is still a zebra no matter how much it weighs.

I am a person who has dealt with weight all my life. Almost everyone in my family is overweight and I struggle not to join them. My father is obese and has multiple health problems resulting from it. However, it has not made him an a-hole.
Manginos weight may be a symptom of the problems he is having at KU right now, but it is not the single cause of it all. Mangy is a hothead. He has never seen eye to eye with his AD and has had problems in the past with anger issues and his team. He is also, because of his weight and personality, not the ideal face for a highly visible football program. Once you add all of that up and include the bad losses this season, and the lack of discipline on the team, and you get a highly volitile situation.
That is why Mangino is in trouble.

Dan Patrick was saying the same thing. Programs want to have a guy that looks like Urban Meyer, or Nick Saban as the face of their program... They are just looking for a reason to get rid of him.
This...and they have wanted to for a few years now, they just couldn't when he was winning. Not winning = no job.

I've never had weight problems but the last thing I ever want to do is see somebody get piled on for it. Mangino's problems stem far beyond his weight if he is really that abusive.

Regardless of the outcome at KU I hope he gets gastric bypass or goes on the biggest loser or something. He's till young, I mean the guy is only 53. He takes a year off, loses some weight, he'll be a hot commodity again.

I hate that people say he's a hot head because he's fat.

I don't consider Bobby Knight to be fat, Woody Hayes, etc and they were hot heads.

I don't know how much weight is playing an issue with this whole scenario at KU, but Mangino has needed to get his weight under control for a long time.

All jokes aside, this guy's been working in a highly stressful field for many years as a coach and during that time has had a serious obesity issue that looks to be getting worse. I mean, I think the guy is actually bigger than a couple of years ago. The toll on his body has gotta' be unbelievable. Plus, what kind of exercise can he do at that weight? He ain't out running laps, that's for sure.

Remember Wayne Bolt? He had a similar issue, had that stomach reduction surgery, started excercising and eating healthy and lost a couple hundred pounds. Mangino needs to do the same, like yesterday.

There's "overweight" and then there's "Mark Mangino". It's not like the guy just has a spare tire or something.

The problem with Mangino is that he's so incredibly obese that he's going to have major health problems in the near future. This is the biggest reason other schools haven't gone after him. In reality, he probably has less than 10 years to live. A human body can't take that kind of abuse. It's like being a heroin addict, but becase his "drug of choice" is neither illegal or intoxicating, no one gets bent out of shape about it.

This doesn't have anything to do with the incident, but I can absolutely see why other schools won't touch him with a ten foot pole. Being as obese as Mangino doesn't make you an *** hole, but it dramatically shortens the length of your life.

I think it's perfectly fine for fat people to call people fat.
I'm fat and I know what to look for.
It's a lot like Iowa fans being able to spot fellow dbags so easily.
