I didn't see this posted, but a new depth chart came out today. A ton of good stuff in it.

1.) Who the heck is Reid Branderhorst at TE?
2.) Last years OL class is heavy in the two deep. Good to see and high expectations for that group.
3.) Tiller, Jantz, Capello, Barnett at QB in that order
4.) No Lattimer (we need him).
5.) Laing is ahead of Jake at DT. Nelson behind everyone at DE.
6.) Benton at SS and Washington at FS. Good to see Benton moved.

Fall can't come soon enough.

No real surprises. I don't like to see Rony there but I'm not shocked I guess. Overall, we're relatively young but will lose some real important pieces next year.

I'm assuming Rony is last at DE because he needs to prove himself. I take nothing from these early depth charts because at this point, they are nothing but names on a paper. Come the spring game, that's when it should start to matter.

Patrick Neal is first string LE and second string RE. Does that mean they are expecting Nelson to rise up the depth chart? I don't understand having a starter on one side and the backup on the other. In the video Nelson looks like a thicker but quicker Maggitt. I would not be suprised to have Maggitt and Nelson starting at end even with Lattimer back.

Laing starting over McDonough is not surprising if you watched them at the end of the year.

Bob Graham at Center is interesting.

Albert Gary, Jarvis West, Donnie Jennert at second string WR. I want to see all of those guys play.

I think their will be plenty of changes by this fall. I hope Nelson moves up a lot. He was scout defensive player of the year, and had a year to get used to the college system. I hope Lattimer isn't suspended for too long.

Branderhorst is a guy CPR mentioned in his pre-spring rundown of WRs/TEs. According to the official site, he went to Simpson, where he played basketball for 2 years and is a redshirt senior right now. He's originally from Fort Dodge, where he played QB and LB as a senior.

Nelson was scout team player of the year last year, so that shows that the team definitely thinks he is a good player.

I guarantee this is just a case of letting the guys from the previous year getting the benefit of the doubt to begin with. If you don't do that and just immediately put new guys at the #1 spot without proving anything, what message does that send? The spots are earned and not given out. I think people are putting too much into the initial charts because they are basically just a courtesy at this point.

FWIW Branderhorst was first team CIML Iowa his jr year at LB but was injured for much of his senior campaign, first team selection in basketball as well. At least at the high school level he was a great athlete and had solid work ethic as well.

I agree with this, he is coming off an injury last fall 2. I look for Maggitt to have a really good year because I think when Lattimer does work his way back a lot of teams will key on him thus opening it up for the other side..... Plus it is good to see him bulk up a little my fall I predict his playing weight will be closer to 250....

I swear I read that Latt was working out with the team this spring and practicing. His being buried on the depth chart is probably disciplinary.

Glad to see Gary, West, and Jennert @ 2nd string WR. If those guys could be impact players this year, it would help a TON.

Bob Graham would be a really tall center. We may need to get some stilts for the quarterback if he is the center.

I thought so too, I think I even saw him doing DLine drills on the spring practice video on cyclones.com

I hope Neal is expected to lose his job to Lattimer when he comes back. That would turn our defensive front into a solid set. If Nelson can start to prove himself in practive, I suspect you will see him rotating with Maggitt, since they are both undersized, and provide the same skills on the field.

He is working out with the team, I think it will be a 1 game suspension, whether that is right or not.

He's in the DLine video on cyclones.com. I remember because I noticed he had his hair in a braided pony tail.
