UNLV= another shoot out?

Granted, Idaho State isn't that great of a team. They averaged 2.1 yards rushing, and still had no problem passing for 288 yards on UNLV. UNLV also converted 6-16 3rd downs, and 3-4 4th downs, saying that most of those 54 points were scored on home run drives where the opposition couldn't even stop them on 1st and 2nd down. They also had 26 first downs compared to Idaho State's 21 first downs.

So new rules, which could shave as many as 20 plays and about 15 minutes, were instituted. So they can add a 12th game and total plays are still less over the season...interesting.

Definitely not a given. But after a few days to get my heart rate back to normal, I think the Toledo win was a big one. They immediately were tested with the ghosts of seasons past....going into overtime with the other team having all the momentum. And they still found a way to turn it around and win. I think that will be huge for the future. Now if they could get one big non-Hawkeye statement win!

UNLV will try to make it a free wheeling pass fest because that’s the only way they can win. But ISU can defend the few good players they have.
Coach Mac is still looking for the “must have†ISU running game and he is on the verge of finding it. Expect Stevie H with 125 yards plus and Josh Johnson to run the ball for the first time (with success). The short yardage passing game will be utilized to keep UNLV honest. Kock will be brought in on third down and ISU will simply pound the ball play after play.
Mac must establish the run so that future opponents worry about another dimension in their preparation. My Prediction.

While try to establish a running game is fantastic, why not let our passing game rip to show the nation what we are actually capable of?

UNLV & the balance of the season
I attended the Toledo game. Some points of interest: One of the few games I have attended and very few people left( a good sign). This Iowa State Football team has the potential of scoring 35 to 40 points per game. Coching staff, cut them loose and take the pressure off the defense. When you are trying to increase attendance, points create excitement. Mack

I'd expect to see Rashawn Parker to have a breakout game. He was going against John Greco during much of the Toledo game. Greco is a stud and expected to go high in the draft if he comes out this year. Not a bad player to cut your college teeth against. I'm pretty sure UNLV wont be able to field anyone near that good to try and block Parker.

I want to see more Todd Blythe. 5 receptions in a 3OT game = pathetic utilization of on field talent. Is Mac afraid that if Blythe gets the ball, that people will suddenly be on to him???? Hello, he was pre-season all Big 12, I don't think Todd Blythe is sneaking up on anyone, and it doesn't look like anyone can shut him down. If our coaches realize that Blythe is actually on our team, and thus utilize him, we can hang ALOT of points on UNLV, much more than they should hang on us. If we refuse to use Todd, than this could be similar to Toledo (when I say similar I mean tighter than we like, not 3OT's). I don't want to sound like I am ragging on our whole gameplan/coaching staff, I'm just a bit disgruntled at our consistent neglect of our best offensive player.
