It's D1 basketball, not charity. ISU owes UNI nothing. If UNI is really concerned with their SOS ISU would immediately agree to a 2 for 1.
The loss at Evansville is unexplainable, similar to ISU's loss at Texas Tech.
However, VCU is a different story. They started the year ranked #15, then lost to Villanova, @ Old Dominion, and to Virginia which knocked them out of the Top 25. They beat UNI at home in double-OT which started a 12-game winning streak for them which got them back up to #14 in the rankings. VCU has now lost 2 of 3 because their best player, Briante Weber, is out for the year because he blew out his knee.
If you want to try and use the Evansville loss to put down UNI, so be it. However, if you're trying to use a double-OT road loss to a good VCU squad, try harder.
ISUChippewa,
Thin-skinned pot meet thin-skinned kettle.
Don't get your Frannypants in a bunch.
This thread is comical. UNI's play-by-play guy (and a guy who has his own sports talk radio show) says UNI would beat KU or Oklahoma and then follows it up with "I'm a homer" in the exact same tweet. Shocking that he has confidence that his team could beat another ranked team.
He probably should have said "To please all the Iowa State fans: UNI is terrible; has played nobody and beat nobody; the MVC is weak; UNI is overated; Hoiberg is God; Texas Tech would be the best team in the MVC despite losing to Loyola by 18 points on a neutral court; and UNI would lose by 50+ points to KU and Oklahoma."
I don't think any UNI fans said we are on the same level as Kentucky or Virginia. The quote from Panthernation was talking about how Kentucky, Virginia, UNI, and Wichita State all have good defenses which they feel would give Iowa State trouble.
Yes, our attendance is bad (students in particular), especially for being a Top 15 ranked team. However, saying the Wichita State game was only sold out due to WSU fans is a complete joke. That game sold out in 2 days.
Our starting 5 will likely be:
G - Washpun
G - Bohannon
F/G - Morgan or Jesperson
F - McDonnell, Carlson, or Friedman
F - Koch
Likely a bit of a down year next year due to the lack of post depth. I expect ISU to win handily next season.
Now up to 11 pages on a team that 'doesn't matter' and you 'don't care about'...
I never said I agree with Rima. I never said Kansas and VCU were equally talented, hell I never said UNI and Kansas were equally talented. I was just saying that a double-OT road loss to a team that is currently ranked in the Top 25 (and has an RPI of #9) is not a bad loss and shouldn't be used to diminish UNI. That is all. Continue your witch hunt for Gary Rima.
As a fairly neutral observer of UNI, I can't help but notice how many of the posts on those pages are from UNI fans, or at least dual UNI-ISU people.

On what planet is a loss at VCU a bad loss??

It's not a bad loss, it's a loss that says it's idiotic to act like you'd dominate the Big 12 on the road.
What if after the Texas Tech road loss, John Walters or Chris Williams said "ISU would beat Kentucky AND Virginina in their house if they played." That's how mind blowing stupid the comments this thread is about are. Exactly that idiotic. It's funny laughing at you guys, some of you think you're the Jordan Bulls.
Rima goes out of his way to say things to get clicks and listeners to his show. Everything has to be taken with a giant grain of salt. He said right in the same tweet that he is a homer and said a homerish thing. No need to get all worked up about it. I kind of wish he would stop it, because it really overshadows the great work he does as a play by play guy.
I do know that UNI is very, very good and has the make up to play with any team on any day. Would we win every game if we played a Big XII schedule? Absolutely not. But we're well coached and tough minded enough to be in games and give ourselves a chance.
Most UNI fans realize that our schedule hasn't been as good as its been the past couple of years, mostly because we were stuck with a terrible field in the Cancun Challenge. Nonetheless, 22-2 is a great record and with our style have a great shot to get to the second weekend of the tournament.
Some stats:
Since 2004-2005 season:
UNI leads series 6-3
NCAA Appearances:
UNI-4
ISU-5
Post season appearances:
UNI-7 (2 CIT, 1 NIT)
ISU-5
Sweet 16 appearances:
UNI-1
ISU-1
