It's D1 basketball, not charity. ISU owes UNI nothing. If UNI is really concerned with their SOS ISU would immediately agree to a 2 for 1.

The loss at Evansville is unexplainable, similar to ISU's loss at Texas Tech.
However, VCU is a different story. They started the year ranked #15, then lost to Villanova, @ Old Dominion, and to Virginia which knocked them out of the Top 25. They beat UNI at home in double-OT which started a 12-game winning streak for them which got them back up to #14 in the rankings. VCU has now lost 2 of 3 because their best player, Briante Weber, is out for the year because he blew out his knee.
If you want to try and use the Evansville loss to put down UNI, so be it. However, if you're trying to use a double-OT road loss to a good VCU squad, try harder.

This is an incredibly silly post.

Kansas is much better than VCU, especially at home. Kansas looses at home like three times A DECADE under Self, it's ridiculous.

Anybody who loses to VCU on the road and loses to Evanston on the road, or Evansville, or whatever...some school nobody has even heard of...and then says they would beat top 10 Kansas AND top 20 OU on the road is a total moron.

And don't give me this 'radio host', 'voice of the panthers' excuse. You know what a radio host is who thinks a mid-major team would beat every single top 25 team on the road every game when they have zero quality road wins? He's completely worthless as a "radio host".

Gonna tune in to ESPN radio tomorrow to hear all those hosts who think the Cleveland Cavaliers will win every single game they play no matter what, that's the way the real pros work. Rima works for you guys because you need all the pub you can get, but if he really does have a radio show, he's probably the worst sports radio guy in the nation with idiot opinions like that, why would you even care about such a brainwashed opinion?

1. Rima can say whatever he wants.
2. ISU fans can ridicule him when he says something stupid.
3. Saying UNI could win at OU and KU is true, they probably could.
4. Saying UNI would win at both OU and KU is probably quite stupid. It could happen but it is highly unlikely.
5. Rima saying he is a homer doesn't make what he said any less stupid, it just attempts to explain why he said something stupid.
6. Most ISU fans aren't mad, butthurt or anything else about Rima's comments.
7. Feel free to ridicule Rima's comment.
8. Profit.

I never said I agree with Rima. I never said Kansas and VCU were equally talented, hell I never said UNI and Kansas were equally talented. I was just saying that a double-OT road loss to a team that is currently ranked in the Top 25 (and has an RPI of #9) is not a bad loss and shouldn't be used to diminish UNI. That is all. Continue your witch hunt for Gary Rima.

ISUChippewa,
Thin-skinned pot meet thin-skinned kettle.
Don't get your Frannypants in a bunch.

Seriously?

You wrote something stupid and I rightfully called you out on it. If you don't like being called out then stop writing stupid crap. It's that simple.

This thread is comical. UNI's play-by-play guy (and a guy who has his own sports talk radio show) says UNI would beat KU or Oklahoma and then follows it up with "I'm a homer" in the exact same tweet. Shocking that he has confidence that his team could beat another ranked team.
He probably should have said "To please all the Iowa State fans: UNI is terrible; has played nobody and beat nobody; the MVC is weak; UNI is overated; Hoiberg is God; Texas Tech would be the best team in the MVC despite losing to Loyola by 18 points on a neutral court; and UNI would lose by 50+ points to KU and Oklahoma."

I don't think any UNI fans said we are on the same level as Kentucky or Virginia. The quote from Panthernation was talking about how Kentucky, Virginia, UNI, and Wichita State all have good defenses which they feel would give Iowa State trouble.

Yes, our attendance is bad (students in particular), especially for being a Top 15 ranked team. However, saying the Wichita State game was only sold out due to WSU fans is a complete joke. That game sold out in 2 days.

Our starting 5 will likely be:
G - Washpun
G - Bohannon
F/G - Morgan or Jesperson
F - McDonnell, Carlson, or Friedman
F - Koch

Likely a bit of a down year next year due to the lack of post depth. I expect ISU to win handily next season.

Honestly, this whole thread is the reason why other fan bases take a look at us, and then point and laugh. I would feel and write the same if I didn't care a lick about UNI.

Now up to 11 pages on a team that 'doesn't matter' and you 'don't care about'...

As a fairly neutral observer of UNI, I can't help but notice how many of the posts on those pages are from UNI fans, or at least dual UNI-ISU people.

Fair enough, and guilty as charged, but when the words "UNI" and "Gary Rima" in the thread title, it's only natural that UNI fans and dual fans like myself are going to chime in.

I'll talk to fools any day who think a team that can't win at Evanston or VCU would sweep Kansas and OU on the road this year. Why turn down that excellent fun?

On what planet is a loss at VCU a bad loss??

It's not a bad loss, it's a loss that says it's idiotic to act like you'd dominate the Big 12 on the road.

What if after the Texas Tech road loss, John Walters or Chris Williams said "ISU would beat Kentucky AND Virginina in their house if they played." That's how mind blowing stupid the comments this thread is about are. Exactly that idiotic. It's funny laughing at you guys, some of you think you're the Jordan Bulls.

This is CF. It's high traffic. There's a 300 page thread on people's random thoughts.

I know 11 might be a record on a uni message board but here it only takes a couple guys with controversial opinions to generate the discussion we have here.

Rima goes out of his way to say things to get clicks and listeners to his show. Everything has to be taken with a giant grain of salt. He said right in the same tweet that he is a homer and said a homerish thing. No need to get all worked up about it. I kind of wish he would stop it, because it really overshadows the great work he does as a play by play guy.

I do know that UNI is very, very good and has the make up to play with any team on any day. Would we win every game if we played a Big XII schedule? Absolutely not. But we're well coached and tough minded enough to be in games and give ourselves a chance.

Most UNI fans realize that our schedule hasn't been as good as its been the past couple of years, mostly because we were stuck with a terrible field in the Cancun Challenge. Nonetheless, 22-2 is a great record and with our style have a great shot to get to the second weekend of the tournament.

Post this and nobody gets in your face here.

Say you would beat OU and KU on the road despite having zero quality road wins and 2 road losses to worse teams...idiocy will be met with mockery most times. It's fun and a big reason message boards exist.

See thread "Iowa Basketball Recruiting", 5312 posts and 355 pages (at 25 a page, I like it better at 25 to remember where I was at last).

To be fair, that thread should be retitled "laugh at irrational Iowa fans clinging to false hope". It's kind of fun to see some of the backtracking in it.
