Gold's Gym - new on 22nd in WDM. I think it's $100 to join and $35 per month (for an individual).

Plus - they have the cardio theatre. A huge high-def movie screen set off in a back room with treadmills and elipticals. Very cool.

We always had gym memberships until we moved to CO in 2004. I really like working out at home. Options might be limited but the biggest hurdle is going downstairs rather than getting in a cold car, driving there, parking, and then hoping equipment is available.

I've got that same model Sear's treadmill. It holds clothes quite nicely.

My wife had a bonus about a year and a half ago and was adimat that she should be able to spend it on a good treadmill at Sears. Anyways, we got one - even when I stated that it wouldn't get used - that cost around $800 (on sale from $1,200 or something like that). Needless to say, it has about a mile on it:skeptical:

That's funny, because I'm the opposite. If I'm at home, my wife is usually there. JUST KIDDING.

I'm better at working out when I make it an event. It's too easy to turn off the treadmill after a few minutes if I smell pasta cooking or hear the doorbell ring. Plus - I've made a lot of friends at the gyms I've belonged to.

We have an elliptical that gets used nightly and has for going on 4 years now.

I have one of those too. I'm like you in that I love working out at home. You can't beat the commute, and my workout time is the only time I get to clear off the DVR. 2nd Wind has good equipment, but their stuff is pricey. Sears is probably a good place to get a mid-range treadmill. I'd look for one with a good motor and belt, instead of one with a lot of bells and whistles but a bad drivetrain that might breakdown sooner. 10mph sounds pretty fast. If you plan on running on it, make sure the treadmill is meant to be run on. I seem to remember that the low and mid-range treadmills are generally meant to be used only for walking, not running.

Here are a couple of good reviews. I think if you are planning on using it for serious, even semi serious training your price range is at a minimum 1/3 of what you need to spend.

You don't always get what you pay for something, but at the same time don't pay for what you get.

I picked up a nice one on ebay for $75. Works GREAT. Every bit as good as a $600 treadmill (which I'm sure it originally was). I got lucky, and found one that was local-pick-up not too far away.

I'm looking to run 2-3 miles 2 or 3 times per week in the cold months only. I'd still use my elliptical as well. I really don't want to spend a lot of money on something I'll only use lightly.

What about scratching the treadmill, keep using that elliptical and then mixing in a good plyometric workout? A lot less cash, just as good of a cardio workout (it not better) and is more interesting.

I've been to 2nd wind. They are beyond my price range.

Also, I go 160 lbs soaking wet so I don't need anything real industrial.

I guess that was my mistake, but I try to use mine from 2nd Wind 3 to 5 days a week.

I here spinning is suppose to be good for you !

Man, if I had the trainers from The Biggest Loser, they would kick my *** !

Spinning is GREAT! What a killer workout if you have a good leader. I'm usually the guy in the very back of the room ******** about the routines, but it kicks the treadmill and elliptical.

Plus, the participants are about 80% female. BONUS.

I buy, sell, repair, and refurbish new/used fitness equipment for a living. One option I always suggest is to buy a used commercial treadmill instead of a new "home" model treadmill. For roughly the same money, you get a unit that should last you forever, and if anything does go wrong with it, it's much easier to find people and parts to fix a commercial unit.

Anyone have a treadmill they really like? And why?

I want to buy one. I'd like to stay in the $700-$1000 range. Preferrably around $800 but I'd spend more if it was "worth" it.

I know I definitley want:
-at least a 2.25 chp motor with a lifetime warranty
-at least 20 inches wide
-at least 55 inches long
-10 mph capability.

Beyond that, I don't really care. I'm not really into the bells and whistles. I just want it to work and be reliable.

This is a no-brainer. The Nordic-Track treadmill that is available only at Costco for $825. 3chp and goes 12mph. Better looking and sturdier than any other treadmill in this price range that I considered. I own one, it is great. The only thing that isn't awesome about it is that the display is pretty simple. For example, it doesn't ask for your weight so when it tells you how many calories you burned it really has no idea. The link is below, it says $899, but that includes shipping. It will be $825 in the store. I read a review of this treadmill somewhere that called it the best treadmill under $1k ever.

I have a Landice L7, it is not in the price range you are looking at, but this is a seriously good treadmill. I owned a pro form and ran on it daily for about 2 years when I just wore it out. The Landice I have at home is better than any I have used at any health clubs.

Whatever you buy do your research. We made the mistake of buying a highly rated treadmill but it was highly rated for mainly walkers. As a runner, we busted the base board after a year and a half. It was easily replaced but it costed $200. We then found out that tons of people have had that problem with running on that same model.
