OK, I just thought of a new gauge for tourney worthy.
Q1 & Q2 W-L record is # of points.
Point total has to equal -2 or less in Q1 & Q2 W-L record (so 8-10 is in, 8-11 is out)
BUT . . . .
each Q3 loss removes one point so 1 Q3 loss means -1 in Q1+Q2
each Q4 loss removes two points so 1 Q4 loss means even record in Q1+Q2
Above 5 B1G teams:
Indiana: 4-8, 5-4, 3-1, 6-0: one Q3 loss means -1 is goal, 9-12 (-3) does not make the cut
Iowa: 3-9, 5-3, 4-1, 6-0: goal -1, 8-12 (-4) does not make the cut
Mich St: 4-8, 5-5, 5-0, 4-0: goal -2, 9-13 (-4) does not make the cut
Ohio St: 3-6, 3-5, 8-1, 5-0: goal -1, 6-11 (-5) does not make the cut
Minny: 1-8, 6-3, 2-2, 9-0: goal 0, 9-11 (-2) does not make the cut
Other similar/bubble teams:
Drake: 4-1, 3-3, 9-2, 11-0: goal 0: 7-4 DOES make the cut by 3
Indiana St: 1-4, 4-1, 10-0, 12-1: goal 0, 5-5 DOES make the cut at goal (barely due to Q4 loss)
K State: 4-7, 4-6, 5-0, 5-0: goal -2: 8-13 (-5) does not make the cut
Cinci: 3-10, 3-1, 3-2, 9-0: goal 0: 6-11 (-5) does not make the cut
TAMU: 5-6, 6-3, 2-4, 5-0: goal +2: 11-9 DOES make the cut at goal (even with 4 Q3 losses)
Pitt: 2-6, 5-2, 7-2, 7-0: goal 0: 7-8 (-1) does not make the cut
Wake F: 2-5, 6-6, 5-1, 6-0: goal -1: 8-11 (-3) does not make the cut
Wiscy: 4-8, 8-4, 3-0, 4-0: goal -2: 12-12 DOES make the cut by 2
Iowa St: 8-6, 5-1, 2-0, 9-0: goal -2: 13-7 DOES make the cut by 8
Alabama: 3-9, 8-1, 7-0, 3-0: goal -2: 11-10 DOES make the cut by 1
Auburn: 1-7, 9-0, 9-0, 5-0: goal -2: 10-7 DOES make the cut by 5
BYU: 6-7, 4-2, 4-0, 8-0: goal -2: 10-9 DOES make the cut by 3
Needs refinement as number of games played in Q1 & Q2 should also factor in so 5-3 W/L does not look same as 11-9 W/L.
Yes, I am an engineer who likes to mess with numbers (and try to come up with definitive answers).
