This thread really does make me feel good about being an ISU fan. It really can be awesome!

I was just talking with a friend of mine who also is an ISU fan. I said being an ISU is filled with quite our share of low points, but our high points are so worth all the bad that we endure.

I will always contend that the good times mean that much more to us because of the proverbial kicks in the nuts we seem to take.

There are many comparisons made (i see one that seems like almost every other month on here) that compares the Chicago Cubs to the Cyclones. Just imagine what the city of Chicago will be like the day the Cubbies finally win the world series. You can't imagine what the will mean to so many people. It's the same in Ames, imagine what would happen to that city in central Iowa when Iowa State wins the big one, like the big 12 championship in football.

Holding call in MacCarney's last game! Didn't make up for all the hosing he took and just tried to be "classy" about. If he wasn't going to go ballistic after the phony, contrived, preconcieved, conspiratorial "offensive pass interference" when we had the Huskers at home in 2006 or so, he needed to move on and let someone with some passion come in (and we got Chiz!?!?).

I still am very grateful that he got that holding call. We were all due that one 20 times over. We still like you Mac, I will buy you a beer any damn day you want it.

Dude, noone knows how big the Cubs will be when it happens. Grown men will be blabbering, crying babies. Airports and highways will be shutdown in gridlock. Jim Belushi will break out of prison. It will be a touchstone event. I think EVERYONE underestimates the impact of a Cubs world series on this nation. I personally plan on driving from Iowa, probably getting stuck in traffic somewhere around Dekalb, will abandon my car, buy a case of Natural Light and some smokes, start walking with about 400 of my best friends until we hit the nearest train station where we will ride on the roof like some 19th century gypsies. If I get to the Des Plaines River, that will be OK. I'm going to party like its 2009.

I rest my case. I know Iowa State is on a smaller scale due to fanbase size and reach, but I know some crazy sh*t would be going if the Cyclones won the big one.

these are some awesome lists. I will add a couple of my faves that arent on here: Fred Hoiberg dunking over Acie Earl in Hoiberg's 1st game vs iowa in '92, Thigpen's awesome 2nd half to lead comeback vs Ok St in '92, don't forget Ty Stewart's 4fgs vs Nebraska before Marvin's run, LaFester's game. even 2007s comeback vs Colorado in football was great. this is a lot more fun, isnt it?
Yes it is WAY more fun! I loved it when Hoiberg went roaring down the paint and threw it down over Acie Earl!!! The LaFester game is EPIC...and Justus Thigpen's amazing shooting display against Oklahoma State is still one of my favorites!! That game and the one with the Hoiberg dunk vs. Iowa were the same year...'92---the year Johnny told off **** Vitale on the selection show on ESPN!!

If ISU won something on that scale it would make the Veisha disturbances look tame.

1) 23-3. First victory over top 10 since Marv Seiler. The kicker was the ridiculous amount of arrogance being spewed by the Hawk faithful all off-season leading up to that game. I told a friend that morning, that I just had a feeling (and I had this feeling for a long time) that we were going to win that. Then we didn't just win, but we dominated. Damn, that felt good.

I've said this so many times to my friends also (one of them I still give sh!t to because he was in Houston)... when I got up that morning and put on the body paint... there was just this feeling in the air that we just were not going to lose... that gameday was AWESOME. :notworthy:

I would add "The Run" somewhere. That will always be in my head. I didn't have great seats at that game, but they were as good as you could get to see that play. I have never seen a run as incredible as that, and doubt i ever will. Not only was the run great, Michael Wagner's block was incredible.

YouTube - Seneca Wallace - "The Run"

My seat sucked as well (northwest grass) and I could only see him bobbing in and out behind people once he got to running, and could only really tell that he made it by the end zone crowd going nuts, but I wouldn't trade being there for anything.

I agree with everything....the only correction I make is that the Big 8 Championship was won by Dedric Willoughby, Kelvin Cato, Kenny Pratt and that crew. I wish Hoiberg, Meyer, Beechum, and Michalik were a part of that great accomplishment!!! But you have a very nice list!!!!

Youll see me at the closist tattoo shop getting a wicked looking walking Cy with the date to commemorate(sp?) the occasion!

We invented the digital computer and the technology used in the Fax machine.

We had a hot soccer player turn into a Victoria Secret model

We were progressive and socially conscious enough to empathize with the downtrodden, exploited, and discriminated populations during the Rodney King verdict and we held protests and civil disobediance displays during VEISHIA to tell the world how enlighted and sincere we are here in Ames. (that was a joke.)

We once had a girl walk into Cy's roost.....a real one, with long hair and a female anatomy and everything!

Cy the mascot dance routine.

Who was the VS model?

This is a small thing because everyone else has done an excellent job, but my favorite was watching Hoiberg dunk over Acie "The Shot Blocker" Earle

I was in the band behind the end zone Seneca was running to. Best football play I have ever seen. When Wagner laid out that guy on a block, I almost peed myself.

I don't have many 'moments' really but from the time I decided I was going to ISU until I left Ames were good times. I was essentially a Hawk fan prior to that but from about late 1998 to Spring 01 it was great to be a cylcone. Almost as if to usher in an end to the really good times - NCAA tourney 01, two months before I left town. I'm hoping for at least one moment this fall to remind us all!
