That coach has had all kinds of issues. Wow.
I've bit my tongue a dozen times to prevent myself from blasting those talking about New Mexico joining the B12 (others ought to have the same restraint) but since these morons keep bringing it up I've decided to respond. Oh, one of the reasons that I've not said anything is because their is a ZERO chance of UNM ever joining the B12. The program is a ******* wreck and nobody cares; not even them.
UNM cheats at all major sports and are considered the laughingstock in the MTW. The only reason Alfred went there is because he knew cheating was part of the UNM culture because everyone in New Mexico does it. At everything. The state should be called Old Mexico because the ****-hole is one step above the corruption that makes goes on every day in Mexico. The US would be better off to give the ******** back to Mexico and say good riddance.
The most annoying thing about UNM is how great they THINK they are. Its like Hawk fans except one difference. Hawk fans think they are great where in reality that are usually just OK or maybe pretty good. UNM fans think they are great when they suck, really suck. The Univ sucks, the stadium sucks, the fans suck, and their own fans don't even care about the their teams. That Alfred thought it would be his new home speaks volumes.
Rather than just vent at how horrible it is I did a little looking. Anyone here who has half a brain could do the same thing. I will save you the trouble so here are some stats. Source: New Mexico Coaching Records
I just picked a random number and decided to go back to to 1987 because it was convenient. They have not had a winning coach in the time and their record is 109-177. Their best coach approaches a .500 record. And yes this is against ****** MTW teams and usually a given win against NM State which one step above a high school team.
UNM has gone to 6 bowl games in that time and lost 5 of them. The only bowl game they've won was against Nevada, a known powerhouse in football from the Western Athletic Conference. Oh, I should mention that it was played on UNM's home field because of course they are so great and the fact that no one would invite them to a bowl game because their fans suck, meant that they had to create their own bowl game. Yeah, you guessed it a bowl game to feature UNM against somebody they thought they could beat. If the game was played on their home field of course. (New Mexico Bowl - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)Unfortunately for them and fortunate for the reason of the country that idea was abandoned when the team sucked so bad they couldn't even bribe their way into their own bowl game. Their bowl losses were against the likes of other powerhouses like San Jose State and Navy. When they did play against a decent team like Oregon State they got whipped 55-14.
Which is a good lead in to their typical schedule. They are the cannon fodder that most major conferences schedule as a cupcake to smear so they can pad their records. Come to think of it, maybe we should schedule UNM every year to pad ours; that's how bad they are. Anyway, given that they play a couple of decent teams in the MTN west and play a couple in the pre conference they usually play 4-5 good teams every year. I took the liberty of looking at the 5 toughest games they played from the last 3 years (2008, 2009, 2010). In that time their record is 1-14 and while I didn't spend the time to do the math their typical loss margin is like by 5 touchdowns. Yes, that's right when they play a decent team they average losing by 35 points. Here are their records; the only game they won is bolded:
2010 (Oregon 72-0, TT 52-17, Utah 56-14, TCU 66-17, BYU 40-7),
2009 (A&M 41-6, TT 48-28, Utah 45-14, TCU 51-10, BYU 24-19),
2008 (TCU 26-3, A&M 28-22, Az 36-28, BYU 21-3, Utah 13-10).
So far this year they have played CSU at home (L 14-10) and their 2 decent out of conference games have been Ark and TT which have been the typical blowouts (52-3, 59-13). I guess they figured they better schedule a cupcake so they just played Sam Houston State at home; and lost. So they are 0-4 this year so combine that with 1-11 last year and 1-11 the year before and you have a recent record of 2-26. Yes, they are probably one of the WORST teams in college football.
If the above isn't good enough just consider the following. UNM just played TT at home in ABQ and lost 59-13. Yes, TT playing on the road beat UNM by 46 points! For those of you that went to UNM that is more than 6 touchdowns. So where is TT going to finish in the B12? Midpack or lower.
So for all those who think UNM will join the B12, just STFU.
Nebraska will have no problem beating another Purdue or indiana. This also gives more game for BTN because who wants a Northwestern - Indiana game on ESPN.Either way, 9 games is bad for the conference. Just means one more week of conference members beating up on each other (lower total wins, increased chance that less will qualify for bowls) instead of on other conferences.
A side thought: it might be better for the big 10 to be playing each other and get 5 wins and 5 losses, than to be playing the b12 or SEC and probably amassing a worse record.
Bobby Snoops, there needs to be a conference championship game to eght more money for the others.I'm not targeting anyone here with the following comments, moreso the media than anything. But here's my thoughts:
The 16 team superconference 'desire' by the media is because they are all terrible at math. They want a dumbed down system that they can understand. As long as all teams are a power of two... they can do the math themselves to create a bracket. That said... in football... there is no need for it. 4 '16 team conferences' would require 6 weeks to filter down from 64 teams to a champion. And they're not going to replace March Madness with the Superconference system.
In all honesty... what makes even numbered conferences better than odd? I'd argue 9 is better than 10. 8 Conference games in football, 16 in basketball and with everybody playing everybody the same number of times its much easier to rank within your conference. I would think the perfect system given the number of number of schools we have would be 8 '9 team' conferences.
I understand that the benefit of 14 over 13 is it allows you to split into two equal sized divisions... but 14 isn't really that good for scheduling. And 16, while great for basketball... isn't inherently anything special for football compared to 12, 10, 9, or 8.
Heck... I could see a combination of 15 and 10 team conferences throughout the country working better for football. A 16 team (4 weeks) playoff system... an automatic qualifier to the playoffs for every 5 teams in your AQ conference. Allows for 80 teams to be in AQ conferences... and while we're not quite at 80 right now... it allows for a couple of at large bids from non-AQ conferences.
The point is... there are other options that can still allow for a 'fair' system... besides 16 team conferences. And even numbered conferences are not 'always' better than odd numbered conferences. It's just the people who have the loudest voices can't seem to understand anything beyond 16 team conferences... and don't understand the downfalls to such conferences either.
I thionk the media, networks, fans are forcing fewer cupcake games, Maybe we need a 13 game season with 9 decent games? If we were to move back to a 4 non-conference game schedule, I hope a requirement for one game be against another AQ conference team. Will not happen but that could help with the Tech situation.
I think it was fairly clear and not a misquote, Obviously the guy is not a guy you can totally trust.Yeah, caught that too. Could be a misquote though.

Will Missouri Fans Fight For the SEC? : Outkick The Coverage
I was reading this article, and I couldn't help but think how arrogant and delusional SEC fans are. While most assume that the SEC is the best conference (and they probably are), they assume that they are so far above every other conference it is sick.
In this article the author assumes the B12 is going to blow very shortly, so Mizzou should accept the invite while its in hand. I think most B12 fans feel very uneasy about the conference's future, but to assume that its going to blow very shortly and to assume Missouri won't have options in the future seems so wrong.
I hope the SEC beats up on each other and doesn't see another National Championship for at least 5 years. Their arrogance is getting nauseating.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Sept. 25, 2011
The Southeastern Conference Presidents and Chancellors, acting unanimously, announced today that Texas A&M University will join the Southeastern Conference effective July 1, 2012, with competition to begin in all sports for the 2012-13 academic year.
The addition of Texas A&M will increase the SEC membership to 13 institutions. It is the first expansion for the SEC since September of 1991 when the University of South Carolina joined the league. The University of Arkansas joined the SEC in August of 1991. With the addition of Arkansas and South Carolina, the SEC was the first conference to split into divisions and add a conference championship game in 1992.
Interesting. I wonder what changed.
