Actually, quite the contrary. Its a sign that he's one year away from being a free agent, other teams will not give up as much because everyone knows he wants to play in minnesota and so that plays into the vikings hands for giving up less.

This trade makes a lot of sense for both teams. For the texans, they have Schaub back healthy and can use the pick to draft a backup in this talent rich draft. For the vikings, it would give them an immediate upgrade over Ferotte and Jackson. The biggest thing for sage is he's accurate which is exactly why Brad Childress wants in his qb.

Vikes get this done, they will win the North this year, my wife would love it if a Cyclone became the Vikes starting qb and all our relatives(hawk fans) that cheer for the vikes would also be cheering for a Cyclone!!!

Maybe we can get the Cowboys-Vikings playoff game we wanted last year....

Bingo! You don't trade a third round pick for one year of a guys contract. Thus the drop from 3rd to 4th.

Nice - I'm excited about his chances up here. Sage is a damn good QB and he'll have a better supporting cast up here in MN. With that said, most Vikings fans will not be very happy with this trade. They want a big name.
I'm very happy with it. Sage for a 4th round pick is a steal, and he is an upgrade at that position. Unless someone else comes along I would expect him to start. The Vikings have had all of the peices except a quarterback for some time now, and just need someone who is at least average to be a good team. I like this more than paying a fortune for Cassell, as any QB should be able to put up decent number in New England if given long enough.

I really hope a majority of Vikings fans embrace Sage, but most fans up here seem to have a pretty short fuse and can be pretty harsh when it comes to QB's - after all, that is the reason the Vikes aren't world champs by now, right? Since Sage isn't really a proven name yet, this trade will produce plenty of skepticism, especially from non-cyclone fans.

But it looks like a 2 round drop. Last year the Texans wouldn't take less than a 2nd and now they are willing to accept a 4th. Sage might only have a year left on his contract, but he is also a year older and is moving away from his prime years. Any trade would also likely include a contract extension so that doesn't explain the lower draft pick. Still a good deal for the Vikings, but Sage's stock is declining.

I'm ******* pumped! He's a clear upgrade from Ferrotte or Jackson. Any Vikings fan that expected a big name top of the line starter was dreaming...

I'm a big Vikings fan and of course an Iowa Stater, but I'm not giddy for this trade. There is no way you can say that he is a clear upgrade from T-Jack. The stats just don't support that argument. I will say that I am happier than I would have been if they had traded for Cassel. That guy has "system quarterback" written all over him in my opinion.

I'm not saying I hate this trade, or will not root for Sage to do well, but I feel like the Vikings position has not dramatically improved.

Don't get me wrong, if you look at it from a position of value, my opinion changes. If you could take a pick in the 4th round of the NFL draft and get Sage Rosenfels, would your pick have been worth it? Of course it would have, just like Jared Allen was worth the picks that the Vikings traded for him. However, I was hoping the Vikes were going to really solidify the QB position. Unfortunately, this move does not do that. There will be a QB controversy again this year.

His stock is dropping but it could also be that they now have a qb they trust and want and they want to get something of value for him

Sage is a very good QB who throws too many INT's. His number are much better than Schaub's minus the INT's.

His choke against Indy is what is killing his stock. This is still a great deal for Minnesota

Bingo...Sage tends to go for the homerun too many times, instead of just throwing the ball away, or hitting someone underneath. He is a very skilled QB though, and having Petersen in the backfield should take a lot of pressure off of him to make things happen...I think I just became a Vikings fan.

As both a Vikings and Cyclone fan I am excited for the possibilities, but I will temper my enthusiam. Sage had both good and bad moments last year and the bad ones cost the Texans some games. That being said, with the Vikings he will be asked to manage games from the QB position as opposed to trying to force plays.

With this trade is would also allow the Vikings to used their remaining draft picks to shore up other positions. (RT, DT, WR, and DB) He is not going to break the bank to extend his contract with will also leave the Vikings with more FA dollars when the market opens on Feb. 27th.

With the draft depth at OT and WR it might be a very good offseason for the Vikings if their 2009 free agents pan out and everyone else comes back healthy.

Oh man, I nearly forgot the gravity of what he's going to be subjected to up there.

Don't do it Sage!

I cringed when I wrote it but I am hoping Childress' experience with QBs will help more than it hurts. Jackson actually did make a noticeable improvement from Year 1 to Year 2. It's just that you can't teach accuracy and poise...

If Minnesota can go out and get a good WR in free agency or in the draft, they might have some decent offensive potential. Bring in a guy like Houshmandzadeh or Gaffney, or even a rookie like Maclin or Harvin, to go along with Berrian, Rice, Shiancoe and the running game, and they could do well.

More than anything, Minnesota just needs a quarterback who can be a passing threat. I still think that T-Jack can be that guy, but if he's not, then Sage has just as good of a chance. If Minnesota can get some balance in their offense, they will be very, very hard to stop.

I've always contended that Sage would be a great starter if he went through a preseason and season as the starter. Take away the pressures of back up and trying to prove yourself everytime out. If he can relax and just play he'll be good to go.

4th Round?? Was he higher than a 4th rounder coming out? Come on Chiefs, you could have gotten him for that

I hope this goes through. As has been said, you are not really going to get more than a 4th rounder for any player in the last year of his contract. There are always many factors in a trade, heck Randy Moss went from Oakland to New England for a 4th rounder. Does that mean he isn't talented?

Sage and Minnesota could be a perfect fit. All the pressure won't be on him to take chances for his team to win. He has a big enough arm, and is only going to turn 31 next month. Still plenty of gas left in that tank. Of all the options available, I believe this is the best move the Vikes could make and I can't believe it may just happen. I wanted them to draft him out of college, but I will settle for this. Hopefully his career with the Vikings can come close to Matt Blair's, except this time they win a SB or two.

I agree with everything you just said. Houshmandzadeh would be awesome.
