Why not give every tax payer a government credit card/vouchers with 'x' amount that must be spent in the next 2-3 months. The money couldn't be saved and it had to be used soon or it would be invalid. This would force some spending. I've though about this for 30 seconds but would it work as at least part of a comprehensive package? I know I only spent about half of the stimulus money in 2008.

That is one philosophy, the other is to stimulate the economy by construction and infrastructure projects. It is a fundamental difference between the two parties.

It could be part of an infrastructure/construction stimulus as well. Hit all the angles.

Quick subject change: what did people spend their stimulus checks on?

i put it towards my initation fee to the country club. which now looks to be an expense that I will be cutting if this market doesn't turn around.

they give it and now they take it away.

yep, if you your house is under water and you can't afford your mortgage payments on the house you borrowed 110% to start off with

or

if you are a big corp executive that allowed your company to fail with short term view points and not ever saving for a rainy day.

Unrelated to the thread but about $$:

I bought a fish tank last week for $250, sold my old one on craigslsit the next day for $120.

My wife was pissed. (because she didn't see the need for a bigger one) So now we're buying a new couch ... you know because a $800 couch is about equivalent to my $130 ... jeesh.

just needed to get that off much chest.

we never should have given women the 19th amendment, ever since they've been on a power trip! :jimlad::yes:
